Summary:

The Registered Nurse position involves nursing care for the students and staff of The South Kitsap School District using assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation. This includes student populations of Nursing Dependent; Medically Fragile; Medically Complex; and Health Concerns (i.e. physical, social/emotional, behavioral, and comorbidity). The School Nurse is responsible for training, delegating and supervising non-credentialed staff, coordinates family and community resources for student health management. Exercises good judgment while protecting confidentiality per HIPPA and FERPA guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify needs of student for care plan development and staff training (i.e. Life-Threatening Conditions, medication at school, etc.);

  • Collaborates with school staff and Public Health Department regarding issues of communicable disease control;

  • Attends and contributes collaboratively in Child Study Team meetings and monthly Health Committee meetings;

  • Attends weekly collaboration with school nurses and supervisor;

  • Attends and/or contributes information for 504/IEP meetings;

  • Plans, coordinates, supervises and participates in state-mandated vision and hearing screenings;

  • Provides In-Services/classes and meetings for staff along with health education for students, including health promotion and accident prevention;

  • Review and participate in policy/procedure development with ongoing review of existing forms;

  • Field Trip and sports/activities roster review with health/medication coordination and training;

  • Assist office staff with monthly immunization report review;

  • Maintains student records in accordance with HIPPA/FERPA guidelines;

  • Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population;

  • Supports building staff in a positive, professional and collaborative manner.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid Washington State Registered Nurse License;

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing;

  • Washington State Education Staff Associate (ESA) Certification for School Nursing;

  • Valid Washington State driver's license and insurance;

  • Demonstration of knowledge regarding rules and regulations for Washington State Public Schools and health care within the school setting;

  • Must be flexible, good communicator, possess professional orientation, and actively participate in a team environment.
