Job Description:

JOB FUNCTION:

The Ceramics Utility position has been created to provide shift support in the areas of quality and productivity improvement. This is a "hands on" position with the following key responsibilities:

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must acquire knowledge of all areas in the Ceramics department, and be willing to move to other job duties within the department as needed.

  • Ensure that all identification is correct and identify the product per Operating Instructions

  • Responsible for slurry checks.

  • Provide the department with product on time.

  • Be able to operate sensitive equipment in accordance with the Operating Instructions.

  • Required to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.

  • Provide quality product by following all Operating Instructions, as well as, PES requirements.

  • Assist and support the 6S program.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by department manager or supervisor.

  • Ensure that you follow all Safety requirements for the job duty that you are performing.

  • Ensure the highest level of housekeeping in the area that you are working in.

EDUCATION:

High school plus some post-secondary education a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must possess good interpersonal and communications skills.

  • Proven track record working in a team environment.

  • Significant experience in casting manufacturing product processes.

  • Previous training experience.

INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY:

Moderate initiative and ingenuity required.

EFFORT:

Lift/move from 20-50 pounds up to 10 times per hour.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Meeting daily cell/department goals for ESH and Variable Cost.

  • Effective communication of goals/objectives to all employees.

  • Maintain a clean & organized work area as you move between job duties within the department.

  • Must be willing to work daily overtime and weekend overtime as necessary.

  • Must be able to multi-task job responsibilities and duties daily.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Good working conditions but with ceramics dust in area.

VIEW JOBS 1/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-12T00:00 Job Description Job Summary: Operate and maintain facility wastewater treatment plant, transfer hazardous waste for storage and disposal, check dust collection equipment for proper operation and empty collection hoppers, maintain chemical drum storage areas, check KOH storage tank levels daily, empty vibratory settling tanks, perform clean up around dumpsters and other outside areas. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: * Wastewater Treatment Plant: Record daily flow from weir box transmitter, check all chemical feed pumps and adjust as necessary, check on line pH controllers and calibrate all pH instruments weekly, fill acid day tank when required, maintain and adjust metals precipitant chemical, check polymer feed system frequently and adjust as necessary. Check and set system valve line-ups for the following process evolutions: 1) Ceramics treatment to sludge conditioning tank 2) Inclined plate clarifier blowdown to sludge holding tank 3) Alternate sludge pump from clarifier and holding tank to plate frame press. Operate plate frame sludge press, clean filter plates, perform PM's on system pumps and make any required repairs to pumps, piping, valves and other equipment, maintain inventory of required spares for pumps and other equipment. Perform wastewater analysis as required, examine wastewater for dissolved, total, and suspended solids. Check system pH and make required adjustments. Monitor operation of inclined plate clarifier ensuring compliance with water treatment permit. * KOH Reclaim System: Operate KOH Reclaim system. Perform daily checks using laboratory equipment to ensure spent KOH meets criteria for Core Room re-use. Monitor density using hydrometers and make adjustments to meet KOH concentration standards. Check filtered KOH for suspended and settled solids using methods described in standard methods for the examination of water and wastewater. Maintain approved temperature in filtered KOH day tank at all times. Perform PM's and all necessary repairs to reclaim system pumps, piping, and equipment. * Hazardous Waste: Inspect hazardous waste storage area weekly, checking drums are properly secured, hazwaste labels affixed with accumulation date noted, spill kits inventoried. Satellite accumulation point is inspected daily, ensuring drum is DOT approved, area is clean and all labels are visible and properly filled out. Prior to moving hazwaste drums to storage, inspect drum for DOT UN approved marking, ensure drum is not damaged, label drum with proper accumulation date, EPA ID number, and type of waste. Check Satellite Accumulation Point in Wax department weekly. * D.O.T. Hazardous Materials: Ensure all hazardous materials offered for shipment meet guidelines as defined by 49 CFR. Hazardous materials are properly handled, stored in DOT approved containers and securely sealed. Ensure hazardous materials are safely transferred to tankers, vehicle placards properly identify hazardous materials being shipped and Bill of Lading is properly filled out. * Storm Water Management & Oil Pollution Prevention: Monitor stormwater outfall #001 daily. Check for industrial pollutants and oils. Monitor and maintain oil storage area, checking that all drums are clean and secured. Pump containment sump when required, ensure used oil containers are properly labeled. Check all outside areas for chemical spillage, paying close attention to storm drains. * Hazardous Materials Management: Inspect all chemical storage areas daily, ensure chemical drums are sealed and not damaged. Check that incompatible chemicals are not stored together. Non-deposit drums are rinsed, drained, labels removed and disposed of. Deposit drums are rinsed and stored in proper storage areas. * Dust Collection Devices and Scrubber Units: Perform daily visual inspections of all dust collection devices for proper operation. Check and record pressure drop indicators on all dust collector. Check water flow rate of acid scrubber daily. Monitor dust collection hoppers and remove dust as required. * Perform facility safety inspections at direction of Safety Manager, monitor eye wash stations and restock as required, perform daily inspections on all fork lifts, note discrepancies and report to maintenance. Re-stock earplug stations daily. EDUCATION: * High School Diploma or GED * Knowledge of Chemicals (Hazmat) * Ability to obtain licensure in Wastewater from the State INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY: Normal initiative and ingenuity required. EFFORT: Reclaim operator must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. This may be required when rebuilding chemical pumps and making large pipe repairs. Reaching, bending and climbing stairs throughout the day is a normal function. RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for self and occasionally Wastewater Treatment Operator. Make sure KOH is reclaimed properly for future use and done in environmentally correct manner. Must be willing to work daily overtime and weekend overtime as necessary.
