Camp Deeny Riback in Flanders NJ is hiring a Ceramics Specialist for summer 2019!

Plan, organize and direct ceramics activities through age-appropriate programming for campers ages 5-14 years old.

Camp Deeny Riback is a place where campers 3.5 years, 10th grade are nurtured and guided by role models and peers during a summer of exploration and growth. Our campers are exposed to the skills that they will need to grow and succeed in today's world alongside the opportunity to express themselves as children in a safe environment.

Campers have an opportunity to participate in 25+ activities during the summer including fine arts, sports, adventure activities, and instructional swim in one of the two daily swim periods.

The fast-paced camp environment, packed with excitement and transitions, requires campers to learn how to think on their feet. Our counselors guide campers to think about the circumstances of each situation and their reactions. This allows campers to decide how to best approach each situation they are faced with.

VIEW JOBS 9/7/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-06T00:00 Camp Deeny Riback Assistant Director Camp Deeny Riback (CDR) is an offsite day camp run by the JCC Metrowest serving families from Essex and Morris counties in New Jersey. CDR provides opportunities for campers, families, and staff to connect and grow through summer experiences that are created through a Jewish lens allowing connection to Jewish values, traditions and a love for the State of Israel. Specific Responsibilities: * Work with year-round camp team to ensure that camp is planned and prepared to open successfully and closed successfully each season. * Oversee Mini & Junior Maccabi games at the JCC. * Represent JCC and Camp Deeny Riback at community-wide events, camp fairs, and open houses. Must be available with sufficient notice to attend events on evenings and weekend both during the camp season and offseason. * Be an active participant at the JCC, including being present at ECC Friday Morning Shabbats, ECC and CDR Shabbat Dinners and Holiday events, JCC Rock the Block (Sunday event), and create connections with coworkers in other departments at the JCC and able to assist them if/when needed. * Express a willingness to grow and learn on the job as well as spearhead new projects. Primary Roles and Responsibilities - Summer Responsibilities * Assume leadership of camp in absence of Camp Director and actively work in partnership with the Camp Director throughout the summer season * Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and our camp's values * Have a strong and motivating presence - get out of the office, proactively get to know campers and staff, monitor and direct appropriate behavior in camp activities, and be a part of camp! * Supervise, mentor, train, and support camp staff * Assist in vision, organize, & implementation of camp program and new camp initiatives in partnership with the year-round camp team and leadership team * Ensure the safety, growth, and inclusion of campers and work in tandem with Camp Director to resolve conflicts drawing on camp values, policies, and procedures * Work with program team to ensure all trips, special events, specialty areas, camp calendar, visiting days, open houses, and any other events are planned in a timely fashion, supported and staffed * Oversee the operations of camp including, transportation, food, supplies, and vendor invoices and payments * Problem solve issues in the operation of camp activities, equipment, and/or programs as they arise * Communicate and coordinate with parents - including both positive feedback and issues as they arise * Actively work to continue improving your skills - be open to giving and receiving feedback * Assist the Camp Director during the setup and break down of the camp and the planning and implementation of pre and post-summer programs (including staff training week) * Be a Jewish role model for camp - educate staff and campers on the Jewish values interwoven through camp. * Guide program staff on how to weave Jewish education and values into their camp curriculum * Run meetings and ongoing training workshops for counselors and other groups of staff in partnership with other senior staff * Interface with visiting guests, scholars, artists, and rabbis * Evaluate summer programs and staff, suggest and implement changes in partnership with the year-round staff team * Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by the Camp Director for the successful operation of the camp * Ability to sleep overnight at camp when needed. All staff working on the CDR team must have an open mind, the ability to work within a team setting and comfortable to ask questions when they feel a deeper explanation is needed. Minimum Qualifications: General Tasks of All JCC Staff * Participation in staff meetings and training seminars, as assigned * Participation in agency-wide programs and program committees, as assigned * Support the mission of the JCC MetroWest * Other tasks appropriate to JCC MetroWest staff, as assigned Qualifications: * Excellent interpersonal (relationship development) and communication skills * Experience with program management and implementation * Must demonstrate the aptitude and willingness to be a visible and active team player * Good critical and creative thinking skills * Good organizational and computer skills * Mature disposition, creativity, outgoing and energetic personality * Bachelor's degree in education, recreation or other related fields * 5-7 years' experience in camping as a staff member * Ability to work evenings and weekends, and overnights as needed * Knowledge of Jewish Holidays and customs * Background informal Jewish education is a plus but not required * Knowledge and understanding issues of youth growth and development * Highly organized, attentive to detail and ability to work independently; a self-starter * Sense of humor and serious interest in having fun This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, and the employee will also perform other responsibilities related to business duties as assigned.
