Job Summary:

The District Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides consultative and direct instructional and behavioral services to students, including those receiving special education services. The BCBA is experienced in explaining and demonstrating various behavioral approaches to diverse student populations at all grade levels for certificated and classified staff to implement. They also participate in developing coordinated positive behavior intervention programs for students. The BCBA consults and assists special and general education staff regarding appropriate learning strategies and positive behavior interventions to support students in accessing instruction and making academic progress in the least restrictive environment. Furthermore, the BCBA conducts student functional behavior assessments, trains and coaches' staff in writing behavior intervention plans, and implements multi-tiered systems of support for behavior. Additionally, the BCBA may provide supportive and direct services to students with problem behaviors that interfere with academic performance and put the students at risk for requiring higher levels of educational support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Master's degree in education, psychology, or another related field required.

  • Hold a valid Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certificate from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

  • Valid Washington ESA certification as a School Behavior Analyst.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful experience working with Pre-K to 22 yr. old students in the public-school setting.

  • Knowledge of general education and special education classroom environments and standards of learning.

  • Demonstrated skills and experience with applied behavior analysis.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates the development of, and assumes the responsibility of aligning, a district behavior management process.

  • Participates in the planning development and implementation of program, procedures and best practices related to instruction using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

  • Collaborate with IEP teams, parents, the public, and mental health community for the purpose of supporting individual student development goals.

  • Develop materials, provide resources and deliver quality professional development to administrators, certificated teachers, para-educators and parents/guardians in principles and methodologies related to serving the needs of students with behavior difficulties.

  • Ability to speak Spanish.

  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment.

  • Plans and provides or supports the development and implementation of programs, policies, and best practices relative to the management of students' behaviors, including students with Autism, emotional disturbance, other disabilities as well as students with 504 plans and/or in general education.

  • Plans and provides, or supports the provision of, positive behavior management interventions and programs, for students, classrooms and school sites.

  • Develops and provides training to and collaborates regarding the work of instructional assistants and other staff implementing behavior intervention programs.

  • Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) or Functional Assessments (FA) as appropriate.

  • Collects and analyzes data as part of assessment, developing and monitoring behavior recommendations and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).

  • Consults with principals, Behavior Specialists, School Psychologists, teachers and other specialists in developing, monitoring and evaluating behavior management strategies for general and special education students.

  • May work directly with students as a means of training instructional assistants, teachers, and other staff in the positive behavior supports for particular students.

  • Keeps abreast of current research and information in the areas of behavior management and provides in-service and training for teachers, specialists, instructional assistants and other staff in areas related to behavior management strategies, avoidance of aversive techniques, and managing assaultive behavior.

  • May attends IEP meetings for especially difficult cases.

  • Communicates with staff members regarding strategies developed for referred students and may assist the assigned case manager with a communication strategy for the entire IEP team, including parents.

  • Ability to professionally collaborate and consult with administrators, teachers, instructional assistants, parents and other team members.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to support the District's vision, mission, goals, and culture code including the belief that all students can succeed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness of self and others, listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathetic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer-service oriented.

  • Participate in school community events such as open houses or conferences.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of employment.

  • Physical capability to respond to students in order to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.

  • Meet regularly with staff to assess progress and plan for student needs.

  • Attending training and professional development as appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $65,867.56 - $134,703.02, depending on experience and qualifications including 25 extended days

Work Schedule: 7:30-4:30, M-F, 7.5 hours per day, 211 days per year
