Central SupplyTechnician Level 2's are multi-skilled personnel who are responsible andaccountable for all duties related to cleaning and decontamination of generaland specialty surgical instruments, power equipment, endoscopes, andsterilization. They are responsible for the preparation & packaging ofgeneral instruments and for two surgical instrument specialties; qualitycontrol testing and monitoring of sterilization equipment, maintaining records,and preparation and dispatch of surgical cases. The level 2 technician musthave knowledge of surgical instrumentation and must be able to assemblesurgical trays with a count sheet. They may perform assigned duties such asanswering phones, cleaning, stocking, transporting, and dispensing supplies andequipment.
Demonstrates knowledgeof decontamination, disinfection and cleaning methods. Exhibits knowledge indetermining the methods to be used to care for instruments: hand washing,mechanical washing or disinfection, especially in removal of protein andcorrosion. Thoroughly disassemblesinstruments and equipment for cleaning and ensures all bio-burden material isremoved. Inspects important points in instruments and equipment to ensure theyare functioning properly and there is no damage. Operates and troubleshootscleaning equipment. Maintains OSHA safety standards.
Demonstrates knowledgeof preparation and assembly, inspection and packaging of general and twospecialty instrument services. Selects and inspects all the required instrumentsfor each set used in the OR; arranges them in the proper sequence and in amanner for effective sterilization; adds the sterilization integrator, adds theassembly list, wraps, seals, and/or containerize; labels each setappropriately. Thoroughly inspects all instruments for sharpness, functionalityand integrity. Utilizes resourcesavailable to replace faulty/missing instruments and/or contacts the InstrumentCoordinator for replacement.
Demonstrates knowledgeof sterilization processes, documentation, storage, and delivery of sterilepackages. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding by explanation of thefunction and operation of all sterilization processes as well as understandsthe sterilizer mechanical/chemical indicators.
Effectively enters, modifiesand searches information in the instrument tracking system. Accuratelyincorporates the scanning of all tasks, transactions and sets processed intothe daily record.
Incorporates infectioncontrol guidelines during the transferring, storing and transporting of sterilepackages.
Demonstrates knowledgein preparation and dispatch of surgical cases. Use of the Horizon SurgicalManager program to upload and download operating room schedules. Exhibitknowledge in correct identification of medical/surgical supplies and pick theright quantity and the right medical/surgical supplies according to preferencecards. Get tray printout to accompany picked cases, sign preference cards,accurately label case carts with building ID, Room #, surgeon's name, and delivercases to the operating room.
High school diploma orequivalent. Requires knowledge of reading, writing, and math normallyacquired through high school education.
Current IAHCSMMcertification (CRCST) required.
Demonstrates ability towork well with others as part of a team.
Good communication andinterpersonal skills. Must be able to follow oral and writteninstructions and do basic mathematical calculations.
Position requiresflexible work schedule, weekends and holidays.
Requires basic computerskills.
Knowledge of surgicalinstrumentation.
