Under the direction of the Central Sterilization Director, performs effective and efficient customer service by maintaining quality and aseptic control procedures including sorting, decontamination, processing, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of sterile instruments, equipment and supplies. SCHEDULE IS 2:30-10:30PM, M-F.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Effectively coordinates with Director to schedule team work activities to assure all tasks and documentation are completed efficiently within specified standards of quality.
2.Precepts new team members using the Central Sterilization Orientation and Assessment Protocol.
3.Provides work guidance, support, and coaching to promote ongoing learning and ensure the delivery of a clean, safe and functional product and provide first line disciplinary action when needed.
4.Collaborates with Department Director to resolve team member issues, determine needs, improve communications and strengthen interdepartmental relationships to meet or exceed customer expectations.
5.Maintains department supply and instrument inventory with established PAR levels. Responsible for department ordering of instruments and supplies.
6.Reports faulty equipment in a timely manner.
7.Effectively assists Department Director in personnel selection, performance appraisals and provides input into personnel actions.
8.Completes routine audits to verify team member competencies.
9.Assigns daily tasks to team members based on their qualifications and needs of the department. Identifies staffing resources and adjusts assignments when necessary including personally staffing an assignment during periods of high volume and shortage of team members.
Maintains all necessary records and logs associated with sterilization.
Flexibility in work schedule to meet the demands of the department and be present for weekend student testing and exams.
Attends required meetings and activities at the Dental School or University.
Utilizes the appropriate chain of command within the scope of responsibility.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school education or equivalent required. Central Service Technician or Surgical Technician program completion. 3 years of central service experience. Must be able to perform all relevant skills on the Central Service Technician Job Description. Previous supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership skills are required. Good communication, flexibility, interpersonal relations and customer service skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Able to support the department, Dental School and University mission and values required. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of instrument tracking systems helpful. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of microbiology, decontamination, and sterilization and infection control is preferred.
