Sterile Processing Technologist Location: Lamar, CO Duration: 13 weeks Shift Information:
Day shift Description: The CS Processing Technician performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned or required by the Surgical Services Manager.
Responsibility Decontaminates and sterilizes surgical instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles wraps and sterilizes trays and sets of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. Monitors biological indicators.
Monitors chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Verifies that sterile processing equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Accountability The Central Sterile Tech reports directly to the Surgical Services Manager.
Qualifications Education: High School graduate and or higher education desired. Licensing: National or State certification or equivalent preferred.
Training and experience: One year of current experience within the last three years in a comparable job preferred. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment preferred.
Maintains CPR/BLS certification. Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions, and OSHA standards. Ability to work independently and with team members.
Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed. Ability to work efficiently in an organized manner. Ability to understand medical and surgical terminology.
Achieve Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) status within 2/years and Certified Endoscope Reprocess or (CER) status prior to 3 years of employment in this position.
