Description:

Objectives:

Functions as a team member under the supervision of Sterile Processing Leadership. Responsible for supporting the decontamination and assembly process of instrumentation.

C Special Skill / Aptitudes

  • Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel.

  • Understanding of infection control workflow

  • Good hand, arm and vision dexterity to handle sensitive instruments and equipment; ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.

  • Ability to operate department equipment.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Decontamination:

  • Receives instruments into decontamination area

  • Scans instruments sets

  • Removes genesis pans, filters, etc

  • Rinse genesis pans as necessary o Loads washers and cart washer

  • Loads Case Carts and instrument pans into cart washer Load completed racks into instrument washer

  • Restock work stations

  • Brushes, Soap, towels, etc

  • Assembly:

  • Unloads washer and cart washer

  • Place instruments and rigid containers on appropriate racks

  • Place biohazard bins in appropriate area

  • Stores sterile instruments in appropriate locations

  • Distributes sterile instruments/equipment to ancillary departments

  • Restock workstations

  • Towels, indicators, tip protectors, etc

  • May involve exposure to communicable disease, hazardous gases/chemicals and resultant vapors from use; injury from sharp objects; no known allergies to disinfectants, detergents, soaps and cleaners.

Position Qualifications: Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required. A. Education * High school diploma or GED. B. Licensure / Certification * Phlebotomy Certification preferred. * Current Heart Saver (HS) certification. C Special Skill / Aptitudes * Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups. * Type 35 wpm with emphasis on accuracy. * Knowledge of medical terminology desirable. * Familiarity with common medical billing procedures desirable. D. Experience * A minimum of one year previous phlebotomy experience required. * Successful completion of EKG program or equivalent experience desirable. Duties / Responsibilities: 1 Collect blood samples using appropriate phlebotomy technique. 2 Schedule glucose tolerance tests and coordinate testing to include collection of fasting glucose, administration of glucola, and completion of timed venipuncture's. 3 Perform glucose testing on-site using a glucometer. 4 Prepare specimens as required for testing, including centrifugation, freezing serum, etc. 5 Answer all incoming phone calls and use proper telephone etiquette. 6 Maintain adequate supplies on-site in satellite location. 7 Verify report completeness of all testing requested from the satellite location. 8 Sort and mail reports. 9 Register patients into hospital information system (or collect patient information for retrospective registration). 10 Perform EKG on-site as scheduled. 11 Maintain patient log of all tests ordered. 12 Maintain equipment and work area in a clean, professional manner. 13 Collect throat cultures. 14 To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the competencies/essential functions satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
