This position is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all Central Office systems including the ILEC/CLEC VoIP switch, DWDM, SONET and IP transport equipment, FTTx access equipment and the circuits they carry to include 2-wire and 4-wire special circuits and their associated support infrastructure and provide testing and troubleshooting skills for all the equipment above as required.
Responsibilities: Install and maintain switching equipment and support electronics for both TDM and VOIP applications located at a main central office, data centers and other remote equipment points of presences. Install, provision and maintain SONET and IP telephone network equipment for both Transport and Access applications for both the ILEC and the CLEC infrastructure. Maintain backup data for all telecom-related systems.
Install and maintain DC power systems and perform preventive maintenance on emergency generators. Install, provision, and maintain T-1, DS-3, OCx and GigE circuits, as well as 2-wire and 4-wire special circuits (including analog, DDS, T-1, DSL, etc.) and their support infrastructure electronics such as channel banks, M13 multiplexers, DACS systems, DSLAMS and DSX cross connects. Multi-task in a fast-paced, stressful environment, exercise good judgment and respond to various calls simultaneously and take proper action.
Interface with carriers, other departments and customers for testing and troubleshooting. Qualifications: Minimum of 3-5 years telecom switching/SONET transport experience Strong VOIP telephony/I.T. background Self-motivated and skilled at problem solving Good communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to work under strict deadlines Ability to work varied shifts Ability to use and interpret Analog, DDS, T-1, DS-3, OCx, GigE, CWDM/DWDM, and SIP test equipment. Working Conditions Work schedule with in-office/work site.
Schedule may vary depending on business needs. Intermittent indoor office working environment with prolonged sitting. Outdoor working environment with seasonal heat, cold, and other inclement weather conditions.
Driving company assigned vehicle to/from work sites in a safe and responsible manner during adverse weather conditions, heavy/light traffic, or at night. Work sites are varied and may involve extensive walking on diverse types of terrain, working around objects and machinery in construction areas, and may require confined space entry and ability to work in elevated areas. Regular use of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment and tools; reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally, bending at the waist; standing and or walking for extended periods of time; lifting objects up to 50 pounds or lifting more than 75 pounds with tool aids.
Other Requirements: Preferred experience with the following vendors: Ribbon, Ciena, Cisco and Calix.
