FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites internal applications for the position of Center Manager (Site Supervisor). We plan to fill five (5) positions at this time.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Head Start/Early Head Start Center Manager is responsible for managing, organizing, executing, facilitating, and directing the necessary functions of an individual Fort Valley State University Head Start/Early Head Start site. The position is responsible for assuring the implementation of quality early childhood programming and family engagement within the Head Start/Early Head Start site. Supervises all site staff. (Oglethorpe Center supervisor will serve as a family advocate for 2 classrooms).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for monitoring and implementing Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC criteria, Licensing requirements, policies, procedures, and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of the Head Start/Early Head Start center.

  • Must work collaboratively with the Director of Education.

  • Develops and monitors center and staff schedules.

  • Responsible for the monitoring of Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms.

  • Ensure that assigned site is maintained properly; classrooms are clean and orderly, equipment and supplies are monitored, and the facility is safe for staff and children.

  • Arranges for and schedules substitutes for center classrooms as necessary.

  • Responsible for monthly safety checks, fire drills and safety meetings as well as updating any applicable logs.

  • Investigates any child or staff incidents assuring all forms are complete and the proper manager and/or supervisor is notified.

  • Monitors staff attendance, timesheets, leave requests, and site files for staff and/or children, for compliance.

  • Assists in the identification, purchase, and annual inventory of center supplies and equipment according to applicable policies and procedures.

  • Maintains and monitors filing and tracking systems and documentations for their site(s).

  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring appropriate in-kind at the site.

  • Submits verbal and/or written reports to Director of Education and the Executive Program Director on the activities and status of the center(s) on a regular basis.

  • Plans and directs the work of the staff supervised. Observes staff and gives feedback on a regular, informal basis.

  • Responsible for completing staff evaluations for all staff assigned to site(s) according to Fort Valley State University procedures.

  • Promotes professional development and supports staff growth.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure classrooms demonstrate the adult behavior indicators as outlined in CLASS, scoring at or above the benchmark of Emotional Support (6), Classroom Organization (5), and Instructional Support (3).

  • Ensure that confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times.

Management Role

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to Teachers, Teacher Assistants, Family Advocates, and Custodian.

  • Coordinate of collaborative efforts with the community and Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms, i.e., interns/practicum Students, Substitutes, and Volunteers.

  • Participate fully in the Fort Valley State University Head Start/Early Head Start planning process, as role dictates.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for own personal professional development including attending meetings and trainings, and maintaining the appropriate competencies and abilities as required by the position.

  • Assure efficient use of funds and materials that have been provided for that site.

  • Complete monthly monitoring checks: to include action plans and follow-up as needed.

  • Conduct and document monthly safety drills.

  • Complete weekly lesson plan checks assuring implementation of Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Supervise the site staff and build an effective site team.

  • Attend and positively participate at all staff meetings, in Fort Valley State University Head Start/Early Head Start improvement processes, and professional development trainings.

  • Adhere to Fort Valley State University Head Start/Early Head Start program personnel policies, EEO/AA requirements, fiscal procedures, and all other workplace rules.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Education or Executive Program Director.

Accountability

  • Implement policies and procedures ensuring quality programming.

  • Complete Head Start/Early Head Start Program Monitoring Plan; writing action plans and implementing as needed monthly (August-May).

  • Participate in Head Start/Early Head Start Center Manager meetings and education component planning; including Head Start/Early Head Start Outcomes Planning.

  • Assure that child screening is completed for each child within 45 days of enrollment.

  • Submit CACFP attendance and meal count monthly.

  • Complete and maintain CLASS Reliability Certification, if applicable.

  • Assure that child assessment information is completed three (3) times annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is only open to current FVSU employees. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and nine (9) credits in administration, leadership, or management; or a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with equivalent coursework and nine (9) credits in administration, leadership, or management preferred.

  • Two years' experience in the early childhood profession.

  • One years' experience in an administrative/supervisory position preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Exhibit strong organizational skills.

  • Attention to detail with ability to perform assignments efficiently and accurately.

  • Must become CPR/FA certified within twelve (12) months of employment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, basic computer and mathematics skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • When driving for Fort Valley State University Head Start/Early Head Start business, one must have a valid Georgia driver's license.

  • Position may require overnight travel/stay.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

  • The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or control; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds overhead and 40 pounds from waist to shoulder. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant visions, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
