Position Summary

This position is responsible for the day to day operation of the New Caney Cement Terminal in Texas. Primary responsibilities include; shipments and unloading cement trains, along with recording and sending reports of daily activities. Operator must perform all duties in a safety conscious manner and in compliance with all applicable environmental laws and policies. The position reports to the Terminal Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Inspect all machinery and equipment for defects daily

  • Use dollies, hoist, and winches

  • Operate rail car mover and bobcat/ skid steer to move materials throughout the terminal

  • Maintain all mobile equipment in proper operating condition, including checks on tire inflation, brakes, waters, and oil pressure

  • Perform cleanup work in assigned areas

  • Operate moving equipment to spot and unload cement and/or Cementous railcars.

  • Operate weight devices as Weight Master

  • Load and weigh bulk cement and fly ash trucks

  • Maintain bill-of-lading, certifications, and all other paperwork associated with loading and receiving cement

  • Perform other assigned work incidental to this classification

  • Perform inventory

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proper Personal Protective Equipment as required

  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language

  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility

  • Operate Bobcat and Railcar Mover

  • Use air, electrical, and hand tools such as chipping guns, jackhammers, wrenches, grinders, and drills of all sizes

  • Report inventory numbers accurately

  • Knowledge of Office software and it's function

Physical Requirements

  • Work occasionally in confined spaces with low clearance requiring bending or kneeling

  • Must be able to lift weights of up to 50 pounds

  • Climb ladders and stairs to elevations of 10 to 120 feet

  • Must be able to work at heights exceeding 100 feet

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces

  • Ability to see and hear safety indicators and warnings

  • Must work in all weather conditions: heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty conditions

  • Will have exposure to all levels of noise that require use of hearing protection

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Operates, transports, and maintains various types of equipment including but not limited to backhoes, small trucks, tractor mowers, and other light motorized equipment. * Maintains easements and right-of-ways; edges, mows, and trims vegetation and weeds; removes garbage and debris; levels unpaved surfaces and fills pot holes; re-posts traffic control devices and barriers. * Performs cement and asphalt repairs including sealing cracks and pot holes; repairs and replaces broken or damaged signs; replaces and installs street reflectors, barriers, and advisory signs. * Completes storm water ditch maintenance; inspects ditches; clears blockages and repairs or replaces structures; jets pipelines; clears grates; inspects illegal dumping and discharge to aid in pollution prevention. * Participates in City-wide emergency response as necessary; clears debris from accidents and weather events; posts advisory and warning signs, conducts traffic control. * Performs other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or equivalent; AND one (1) year of equipment operation and maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of: * Equipment operation methods and techniques. * Safety processes, procedures, and practices. * Accessory applications and operations. * Basic motorized equipment repair and preventative maintenance methods. Skill in: * Operating various types of equipment according to safety protocol. * Working in various weather conditions. * Following instructions. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Valid State Driver's License is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
