Genesis Halff CEI is seeking a Senior Inspector in the Florida Panhandle region. to act as our company representative on construction sites ensuring that workmanship and materials comply with specifications. The successful candidate will be assigned responsibility for field representation on major projects with complex features and must be capable of being assigned to isolated locations and to situations where only broad supervision is available. This position supervises lower-graded personnel and coordinates certain phases of field representation on large complex projects.

Assignments may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Check and verify accuracy of dimensions.

  • Observe work in progress to ensure that workmanship and materials used conform to specifications and contract documents.

  • Use specialty equipment including Nuclear Density/Moisture gauges, concrete air meters, slump core kits, surveying and measuring equipment, and moisture testers.

  • Interpret plans and specifications for contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.

  • Make and check engineering computations and conduct field tests.

  • Record quantities of materials received or used during specific periods and compute monthly estimates of work completed.

  • Maintain daily log of construction and inspection activities and compare progress reports.

  • Prepare sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and report such changes for incorporation on master plans.

  • Supervise other representatives as necessary to cover all aspects of the work and may coordinate activities of other project representatives.

  • Assist in the preparation final estimates throughout the construction project duration.

  • Read, understand and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures, standards and requirements.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Eight (8) years of experience in construction inspection plus requisite FDOT industry certifications and qualifications

  • Florida Driver's License

  • Ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specifications for major projects

  • Knowledge of laboratory and field testing methods and requirements, inspection methods and techniques, construction materials, methods and equipment and safety practices associated with construction projects

  • Ability to handle contacts with field representatives of public agencies, clients and contractors

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in the solution of work problems with minimal direction

  • Ability to organize programs and devise procedures for lower-graded personnel

  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments and a general knowledge of surveying as it applies to construction layout and control

  • Knowledge of mathematics involving simple formulas from geometry and trigonometry

  • Completion of all required FDOT self-study courses

The successful candidate will supervise staff of lower-graded personnel and coordinate certain phases of field representation on large complex projects at the direction of the Senior Inspector. Assignments may include, but not be limited to the following: * Possesses ability to check and verify accuracy of dimensions. * Observes work in progress to ensure that workmanship and materials used conform to specifications and contract documents. * Examines workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approves installation. * Uses specialty equipment applicable to job duties, which includes use of Nuclear Density /Moisture gauges, concrete air meters, slump core kits, surveying and measuring equipment, and moisture testers. * Interprets plans and specifications for contractor and discusses deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction. * Makes and checks engineering computations and conducts field tests. * Records quantities of materials received or used during specific periods. * Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports. * Computes monthly estimates of work completed. * Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and reports such changes for incorporation on master plans. * Performs assignments in assisting higher grade personnel in the performance of their duties. * Supervises other representatives as necessary to cover all aspects of the work. * Assists in the preparation final estimates throughout the construction project duration. * Assists in examining the contractor's schedule for conformance with project requirements, the monitoring of contractor's job progress against the approved schedule, and updating of the approved schedule as required. * Reading, understanding and implementing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures, standards and requirements. * Abiding by all safety and health standards and requirements. * Properly using equipment and supplies and maintaining equipment in good and operational condition. * Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years of experience in construction inspection of major road and bridge structures, plus certification by the A.C.I. in concrete, certification in the use of nuclear density gauges, and certification by the FDOT in asphalt roadway or asphalt plant inspection, and earthwork construction density inspection. * Thorough knowledge of inspection methods and techniques, construction materials, methods, and equipment, trade processes and safety procedures. If knowledge of specific trade processes is required, the incumbent will be required to possess same. * Ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specifications for major projects. * Ability to apply requirements of contract documents to controversial problems short of those that involve policy. * A good knowledge of laboratory and field testing methods and requirements. * Knowledge of inspection methods and techniques, construction materials, methods and equipment and safety practices associated with construction projects. * Ability to handle contacts with field representatives of public agencies and clients. * Ability to oversee and provide procedures for a staff of lower-graded personnel. * Willingness and ability to learn and take directions. * Ability to use precision measuring instruments and a general knowledge of surveying as it applies to construction layout and control. * Florida Driver's License.
