CEI PROJECT ENGINEER

Halff has an immediate opening for a CEI Project Engineer in the NW Florida area.

Description:

Act as a company representative on construction projects ensuring that workmanship and materials comply with specifications.

Education:

Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management degree

Licensure:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registered in the State of Florida - Must obtain endorsement in the State of Florida within six (6) months of Project NTP if registered in another state

  • Valid Florida Driver's License

Experience:

  • Four (4) years of engineering experience (including construction of major road and bridge structures)
  • A Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management may be substituted for one (1) year of engineering experience.

Typical Duties:

  • Supervise and coordinate field representation.

  • Exercise initiative and independent judgment in the solution of work problems.

  • Assist in all phases of project administration.

  • Coordinate project documentation, including progress and final estimates, throughout the construction project duration.

  • Perform related duties as required including, but not limited to, those associated with the preparation of schedules, personnel evaluations, proposal preparation and presentations.

Assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Check and verify accuracy of dimensions.

  • Observe work in progress to ensure that workmanship and incorporated materials conform to standards and specifications.

  • Interpret plans and specifications and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures with the contractor to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.

  • Record quantities of materials received and incorporated into the project.

  • Maintain a daily log of construction and inspection activities and compare with progress reports.

  • Track quantities and compute monthly estimates of work completed.

  • Prepare sketches of construction installations

  • Supervise other representatives as necessary to cover all aspects of the work.

  • Prepare final estimate documentation throughout the construction project duration.

  • Examine the contractor's schedule for conformance with project requirements, monitor the contractor's job progress against the approved schedule, and require updates and/or revisions to the approved schedule from the contractor as required.

  • Understand and implement the approved Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures, standards, and requirements.

  • Abide by all safety and health standards and requirements.

  • Properly use equipment and supplies and maintain equipment in good and operational condition.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications/Certifications:

The following may be obtained within six (6) months from the date of hire provided that this position works under the supervision and direction of a Senior Project Engineer, all other requirements for the position are met, and a training plan is submitted detailing when the qualifications/certifications will be obtained:

  • FDOT Advanced Maintenance of Traffic certification
  • CTQP Final Estimates Level II
  • CTQP Quality Control Manager (attend and pass the examination)

Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of inspection methods and techniques, construction materials, installation techniques, equipment, trade processes, and safety procedures. If knowledge of specific trade processes is required, the incumbent will be required to possess same

  • A good knowledge of laboratory testing methods

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing)

  • Ability to read and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and CPM schedules for major projects.

  • Ability to assist in evaluation of contractor claims.

  • Ability to apply requirements of contract documents to controversial issues short of those that involve policy.

  • Ability to handle contacts with field representatives of public agencies and clients.

  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments and a general knowledge of surveying as it applies to construction layout and control.

  • Ability to schedule and coordinate subconsultants in accordance with contract requirements.
