Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions seeking a CEI Inspector Aid to join our team Charlotte, NC. Typically, assignments include inspecting, measuring and documenting work performed by a construction contractor and providing support as required for NCDOT and consultant personnel performing inspection of construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe, measure and document work performed by construction contractors

  • Support Project Inspector in documenting pay quantities, preparing monthly pay estimates and maintaining project diaries

  • Perform field tests on concrete (air content, slump, prepare cylinders) and asphalt (temperature) according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards

  • Support Project Inspector to verify and document adherence to NCDOT specifications in addition to the contract documents, environmental, traffic control and erosion control policies and regulations

  • Abide by Safety Policies including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment

  • Maintain inspector diaries

  • Maintain and document vehicle preventative maintenance and mileage reports

  • May use a number of different pieces of equipment, i.e. Slump Cone, Air Meter, Measuring Wheel/Tape, Thermometer, etc.; Employee will be fully trained in the use of equipment necessary to accomplish their work

  • May require work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environment contamination

  • Overtime may be required

Skills / Qualifications

  • High school diploma, prefer one year of engineering, science or technology education or training or 0 to 2 years applicable experience

  • Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to follow directions

  • Valid drivers license and insurable driving record

  • Must pass Health and Safety Training and Defensive Driving Courses upon hire

  • Strong Math skills preferred

  • Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to drive full size pick-up truck.

  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment

  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function

  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required

HNTB Corporation is currently seeking a CEI Roadway/Bridge Inspector I to join our Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) Department in Charlotte, Wilmington, or Raleigh, NC. This position is entry level for training in inspection work under close supervision. Job Summary Entry level construction inspection position. Inspects and documents individual activities performed by the contractor in order to monitor compliance with specifications, plans, and other contract provisions. Essential Responsibility * Monitors work of Contractor. * Reads and comprehends contract documents. * Keeps Inspector's Daily report of assigned work activities. * Assists in performing on-site material testing. * Produces As-Constructed sketches as required. * Performs rudimentary mathematical calculations. * Performs measurements of completed work to date. * Performs other duties as assigned. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work frequently requires working at client's job site, construction trailer, and in a field environment. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment, and doing extensive walking. Depending on the specific project, the job may require climbing to various elevations, ability to bend, twist and turn in close clearances, and crawl into confined spaces to perform required work. Select jobs may require work near heavy construction equipment, railroad right of ways, bridges, construction sites, tunnels and airport runways. Work environment may require use of construction/inspection safety equipment including fall equipment. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
