The College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS) is seeking an Outreach and Engagement Coordinator (FA051).
Longwood University is seeking qualified and motivated applicants for an Outreach and Engagement Coordinator position in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. The College offers multiple academic programs that prepare students for careers in helping professions, including in teacher education. In order to support prospective students and grow programs, the College engages in outreach with middle and secondary schools to promote pipelines into postsecondary studies. The College also engages current students in extracurricular developmental activities during their undergraduate studies to ensure student success.
This position is responsible for engagement with state and national organizations that promote employment and workforce development pipelines (i.e., Teachers for Tomorrow, Educators Rising, Teachers of Promise) and direct coordination with Virginia middle and secondary schools to help facilitate college attendance of those students. The position coordinates with CEHHS academic departments, the Dean's Office, Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices (ITTIP), and the Office of Teacher Preparation for successful student recruitment, progression, and support related to programs within the College.
Related duties include:
Collaborate with Admissions to create, implement, and evaluate a variety of student programs and workshops
Research, assess, and implement best practices relevant to specific student populations
Assist with orientation and open house activities
Provide support and programming for the transfer student programming
Maintain on-campus, in-person drop-in hours for students
Maintain and report on records of meetings with students, attendance at workshops and events and other outreach activities and programs
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with campus partners
Demonstrate a positive and helpful customer service orientation for student success
One specific area in which the College participates in outreach and engagement in teacher education is through its Call Me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) program. The successful candidate in this position will assume the responsibility of directing the Call Me MISTER (CMM) program as 50% of the time in this position. Duties associated with the CMM director portion of this position include the following specific outreach and engagement responsibilities:
Recruit students to the program
Develop, organize, and implement an annual Summer Institute and other opportunities for program participants throughout the year
Mentor students who aspire to be in the program and who are in the program
Coordinate with CMM programs at other institutions to support the mission and vision of the program
Engage with alumni and partners to support the program's mission
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in relevant area; Master's degree preferred
Current Virginia teacher license
Experience working with undergraduate college students in an advisory, mentoring, coaching capacity
Experience working with middle school and secondary students in a mentoring capacity
Experience representing an organization to external audiences
Experience planning and implementing events, programs, and activities to support undergraduate college student success and engage secondary students
Experience using social media platforms to promote events and services
Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
