Job Description

Sompo's Ceded Reinsurance team is a globalized customer focused, dedicated and professional organization. The team is responsible for the purchasing and management of Ceded Reinsurance placements. The Ceded Accounting staff will provide accurate and timely production of financial statements, production reports, client receivables/payables and be actively involved in cash processing, collection and disbursement as well as any ad-hoc project requests. Additionally, be able to identify and research issues arising from processes and producing/communicating results in an accurate and timely manner, in order to achieve department standards and meet service level expectations.

The team structure will align to the front-end business functions of Property, Casualty, Assumed Treaty Reinsurance and Specialty. This position is within the Ceded Property Team, reporting to the Ceded Re Accounting Manager.

Job summary

We are seeking a Ceded Re Data Analyst to join our Ceded Re Accounting team in our New York City office. The Analyst will assist with preparing Global CAT Net Recovery schedules for the Insurance segment. This role will be involved with compiling CAT specific claims data and applying the applicable ceded reinsurance layoff for Global CAT events. The analyst will work closely with the Insurance Claims unit and the CAT Reserving Team. The analyst will be expected to meet quarter-close deadlines to deliver CAT Net Recovery schedules for management review.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ability to handle large sets of data, specifically policy and claim information

  • Analyze claim details to determine the applicable ceded reinsurance layoff

  • Review CAT Reinsurance contract wordings to understand the reinsurance structure

  • Coordinate with Claims and Reserving to determine gross ultimate loss figures

  • Calculate the Gross to Net impact of global CAT events

  • Work with Claims and other Sompo areas to assist in facilitating internal and external party audits

  • Assist in preparing CAT specific reports for management review

  • Ad-hoc reinsurance related projects

Desired Skills & Experience

  • College degree and additional insurance and/or reinsurance certifications (ARe, ARM, CPCU) a plus

  • 1-3 years of insurance and/or reinsurance experience

  • Experience with large data sets and analyzing claims data is a plus.

  • Knowledge of ceded reinsurance and CAT treaties is a plus.

  • Strong decision-making skills demonstrated to meet company objectives.

  • Working knowledge of systems and technology utilized within area of responsibility. (SAP-GL, FSRI and FSCD experience a plus)

  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Expert Level Excel Skills Required (Pivot Tables, Sumifs, V-Lookups, Macros etc.) Access, SQL, Python, PowerBi are all a plus

  • Solid understanding of accounting procedures, internal and external reporting and variance analysis

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Detail oriented, organized, and strong problem solver with analytical abilities and have a high level of accuracy

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands

  • Desired personal qualities include: energetic, resourceful, hardworking, self-motivated, highly organized and able to prioritize

Salary Range: $85,000- $130,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience
