Job Duties

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Ceasefire Coordinator to join the Programs and Outreach Section of the Executive and Administration Division. We offer the challenge and opportunity of public service, a professional team environment, and competitive salary and benefits.

The major responsibility of the Ceasefire Coordinator is to utilize his/her law enforcement, public relations, and leadership skills to promote awareness for and implementation of Ceasefire Virginia.

Under general supervision by the Director of Crime Reduction Initiatives, this position is responsible for working directly with members of law enforcement and the community in Ceasefire Cities throughout Virginia to coordinate enforcement, prosecutorial, prevention and intervention strategies, specifically in the greater Metro Richmond area. This position will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of evidenced-based strategies to reduce or prevent violent gun and gang crimes.

The coordinator will plan and attend taskforce and community meetings. The coordinator will foster partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement, non-profits, businesses, civic organizations, and the faith community, to address needs for law enforcement and gaps in services for youth/adults.

The coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring progress and financial reports related to the ceasefire cities. This position will be the contact person for training School Resource Officers on Virginia Rules, an educational program especially designed to help instructors, parents, and students understand the laws that apply to Virginia teens in their everyday lives.

The candidate should have knowledge of current policies, guidelines, and initiatives related to guns, prosecution, gangs, community violence reduction, re-entry, violence intervention/prevention programs and a demonstrated commitment to public interest work, especially experience working on violence reduction issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Candidates should have demonstrated computer proficiency with word processing (Microsoft products preferred).

  • Law enforcement experience is preferred.

  • A criminal background check will be completed on successful candidates.

Additional Considerations

  • A related degree in is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for educational criteria.

  • Law enforcement experience is preferred.
