BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Generally teaches all subjects appropriate to the individual student's needs as indicated on the Individualized Education Program (IEP); provides, intensive and individually planned small group and/or individual instruction in areas of need Individualized Education Program (IEP); monitors and records progress toward objectives; establishes an ongoing evaluation procedure; plans and implements an instructional program for identified students based on identified needs reflected in the Individualized Education Program (IEP); assesses student progress; assists in student identification process; serves as case carrier in the preparation for the IEP meeting at the school site level; serves as a resource for all school staff; works closely with school psychologist and other auxiliary personnel; confers with parents; serves as liaison with appropriate community agencies.

HEMET UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Under direction, to teach and instruct Emotionally Disturbed pupils for the purpose/s of developing success in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs as having severe and/or profound disabilities in more than one area; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.; and to do other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan, develop and implement an instructional program in accordance with Federal Master Plan and District requirements for individuals with exceptional needs;

  • Instruct individuals who have been identified, assessed, and diagnosed as having severe and/or profound disabilities;

  • Utilize a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing pupils, including remedial instruction, demonstration, and activity participation;

  • Communicate with individuals utilizing appropriate mode(s);

  • Assist individuals in developing various socialization skills;

  • Instruct individuals in self-help skills;

  • Administer and interpret various assessments;

  • Work cooperatively with the IEP Team in assessing pupil needs and learning deficie¬ncies, and develop alternative solutions to remediate pupil learning problems.

  • Establish and maintain a safe and functional classroom environment conductive to learning;

  • Instruct individuals in daily living skills;

  • Monitor the physical and mental health of students;

  • Instruct students in citizenship and in the development of social skills;

  • Review, analyze, and evaluate the history, background, and assessment of pupils in designing an educational program to meet individual educational needs;

  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior utilizing behavior management strategies and techniques, including behavior modification, reinforce¬ment, and other positive behavior shaping processes;

  • Administer, score, and record the results of criterion referenced, group standardized and specialized tests in evaluating pupil growth and progress;

  • Counsel, confer, and communicate with parents, school and District personnel regarding pupil progress, and in the interpretation of the educational program;

  • Instruct individuals in sensory motor skills;

  • Supervise, instructs, and directs the work of assistants and volunteers;

  • Prepare and maintain a variety of reports and records.

KNOWLEDGE OF

  • Basic math including calculation of fractions, percent and /or ratios;

  • Interpret written procedures;

  • Write routine documents and speak clearly;

  • Understand multiple step instructions

  • Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of Emotionally Disturbed pupils;

  • Child growth and development and behavior characteristics of children experiencing educational and social dysfunctions;

  • Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and the educational trends and research findings pertaining to the Emotionally Disturbed pupils;

  • Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures;

  • Socio-economic and cultural background differences of the school population.

ABILITY TO

  • Effectively assist in the assessment of the educational needs of educational handi¬capped pupils, and the design, development, and implementation of individualized educ¬ational plans;

  • Provide an attractive, inviting, and stimulating learning environment;

  • Plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program for Emotionally Disturbed pupils;

  • Provide effective learning experiences for pupils from a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and with varying mental, social and emotional levels;

  • Gather, collate and/or classify data;

  • Use basic job related equipment;

  • Schedule activities;

  • Be flexible when working with other personnel and students;

  • Analyze data utilizing defined and similar process;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Credential:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university is required. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid California Teaching Credential authorizing services in the are of Severely Handicapped / Emotional Disturbed. Must posses or be able to obtain CLAD/BCLAD SADAIE certification You must provide evidence of qualifying for this credential with your application material.

EXPERIENCE

Successful completion of student teaching at a recognized college or university or two years of full time classroom teaching experience with the learning disabled child.

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out the essential functions listed above.

Physical Demands: Sitting (up to continuously); stand, walk, bend, stoop, look up/ down (occasionally); push, pull, twist, squat, climb stairs (infrequently); repetitive hand activities within close reach, such as keyboard, mouse, handwriting, files & phone (continuously); lift/ carry office supplies, up to 10 pounds (occasionally), to 20 pounds (infrequently); use seeing, hearing and speaking.

Working Conditions: In a classroom under minimal temperature variations, a generally hazard free environment, noise from student and other site activities, and clean atmosphere.
