The CDL Instructor shall report to the Vice President for Workforce Development. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide appropriate classroom lectures, demonstrations, PowerPoint presentations, textbook usage, video and DVD programs, and internet searches that are necessary to train students in the beginning fundamentals of truck driving skills.
Organize instructional materials and classroom training, driving, and basic control skills training to meet instructional objectives.
Maintain accurate student records, participation, testing, and skills evaluations.
Conduct additional classes out in the community as part of the local workforce development for local businesses.
Be responsible for routine maintenance and service of all equipment.
Manage any inventory. Maintain security of classrooms, tools, electronic equipment, trucks and trailers, and any additional equipment or facilities used for Commercial Driver License Training.
May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
May be asked to teach HazMat Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) as needed
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years' work/teaching experience in the trucking industry required.
Must have and maintain a Class A CDL with all endorsements, and a current USDOT Physical is required.
Must attend and pass the CDL Examiners Training.
Must pass the State Criminal Background check and any other state requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures.
Must have knowledge or be able to gain knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and teach classes in the following areas:
Preparation for the State Commercial Driver License written tests.
Safety pertaining to Commercial Vehicles and basic Commercial Vehicle Operations for Class A, B, and C.
Fundamentals of vehicle controls
Log Book/Hours of Service Requirements and proper trip planning, accident procedures, defensive driving techniques, hazard perceptions, FMCSR (State and Federal Regulations), vehicle safety inspections, basic control skills, and any other skills or tasks associated with the safe operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
Must be willing to attend additional training as needs arise.
May be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses, professional registration, certification or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus but not a requirement.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
Additional Information
This is a twelve-month exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $57,145 to $83,250.
