This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching in the Workforce Training Commercial Truck Driver Training department. The pool will remain open until June 2024 unless positions are no longer needed.

Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available.

Instructor is responsible for carrying out the structured learning processes for students in the Commercial Truck Driving (CTD) Training Program. Teaches students all phases of truck driving, and maintains records and communication with the appropriate RCC staff.

Supervision Received

The Director, in consultation with the Training Services Coordinator (TSC) is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the Vice President. The Director confers with the TSC in decisions regarding instructor assignment and retention.

1.     Provides balanced instruction to students in all phases of truck driving including:

  •         Safety

  •         Operational Techniques

  •         Industry Expectations
    2.    Monitors and instructs students, as appropriate, to ensure safety of students, staff and members of the community.

3.    Keeps daily attendance and progress reports.

4.    Reports progress of students with special instructional needs and provides suggestions to the Training Services Coordinator.

5.    Informs students of daily progress.

6.    Reports any problems with students to the Training Services Coordinator or Associate Dean, depending upon the assignment.

7.    Manages the vehicle/classroom to ensure that students exhibit responsible adult behavior, and maintains an appropriate professional atmosphere for all students.

8.    Reports any mechanical maintenance problems to the Training Services Coordinator.

9.   Helps students progress through the prescribed curriculum and maintains availability to answer students' questions.

10.     Participates as a team member to assure student success.

11.     Maintains professional manner and acts as an appropriate role model.

12.     Assists Training Services Coordinator and/or Associate Dean, in the development and monitoring of procedures, policies and curriculum.

13. Provides active and appropriate participation in CTD team meetings

Education: High School Graduation, GED, or commensurate job experience.

Experience: Two-years of current commercial truck driving experience, and a minimum of five years of total commercial driving experience.

Knowledge of: Current commercial truck driving industry requirements.

Qualifications: All applicants must submit full and appropriate documentation with initial application for employment, to verify the following.
1.    Class A CDL

2.    Ability to document the past five-year driving record to include:

        a.     No reckless driving

        b.     No DUI

        c.     No more than two speeding tickets in three years

        d.     No driving while suspended

3.    Must meet FMCR part 391 qualifications to include:

        a.     Physical: Up-to-date medical card.

        b.     Verifiable work history

        c.     Clean urinalysis

Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including non-traditional adult learners as well as teens; work collaboratively as a member of the Continuing Education Department; demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching; participate in curriculum development; organize effective lessons; advise students; work with college and agency partners; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new curriculum and technologies; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth.

Pass a criminal background check.

Licenses: Valid CDL Class A License, Current DOT Medical Card.

For a typical continuing education course, manual dexterity and coordination are required for about half of the daily work period which is spent instructing students in a classroom lab or other setting, and sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects.

The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities. Some community education courses may have additional physical demands related to the nature of the course.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is typically working indoors in a motor vehicle or in an office. In an indoor office environment the employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate. The instructor may be exposed to different working conditions due to the nature of the course, content, and location.
