CDL Class B Corrections Instructor (Part-Time)

This position is assigned to the Granville Correctional Institution in Butner, NC (M-W, 4PM-7PM); although, some travel to other counties in the college's service area is possible.

• Prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate learning.

• Possess knowledge of effective teaching concepts.

• Counsel and instruct students in a professional manner and appearance.

• Educate students on relevant safety requirements, laws, and state and federal regulations pertaining to commercial driver's license.

• Facilitate in-classroom learning and hands on simulation training.

• Maintain proficiency in skills and knowledge as they relate to operations of over-the-road.

• Utilize relevant technology (Simulation) to support instruction.

• Meet and confer with individuals and groups concerning a variety of subject including confidential matters.

• Maintain considerable knowledge of all requirements of DMV for CDL programming.

• Complete VGCC paperwork with limited assistance and submit items in a timely manner for entering data into system.

• Provide feedback to students regarding course progressions.

• Maintain suitable class records, registration forms, attendance forms, evaluation forms, etc.

• Submit paperwork to Coordinator at the end of class in a timely manner.

• Inform Prison Staff and Coordinator of any student issues (attendance, behavior, etc.) as soon as possible.

Education and Experience Required:

• Possession of a valid NC Class B Commercial Driver's License

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Experience working in a correctional setting preferred

• A minimum of 1 years teaching experience

• Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

• Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
