These positions are located in Yosemite National Park, in the El Portal Administrative Area in the Design & Engineering Branch of the Facilities Management Division. Note the full performance level is either a GS-04 or GS-05 based on selection. You must apply for each grade(s) you wish to be considered for. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Anticipated entry on duty date is around May 2021, but is dependent on candidate's academic calendar. Employment is for the summer of 2021 only, consisting of a minimum of 12 weeks up to a maximum of 6 months. However, an extension of the appointment to a period not-to-exceed one year may be possible, without further competition, when the student intern remains eligible for the program. Pathways Internship positions provide for development and training. Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training. These positions are geared towards individuals interested in the engineering and construction of infrastructure projects of varying types. Under supervision and with guidance from park engineering and project management staff, the incumbent will learn about and assist with performing the following duties: * serving as a team member engaged in the planning, design, and construction of repair and rehabilitation projects for park facilities and infrastructure * performing detailed measurements of existing buildings and entering building construction data into databases * completing field verification of spatial data records * performing condition assessments and identifying deficiencies in existing facilities constructing hydraulic models of water and sewer systems, completing drainage and stormwater analyses * updating developing Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans for park facilities * researching and drafting standard design and construction details for the park * performing observation on active on construction sites * analyzing infrastructure systems for deficiencies or improvements * assisting with topographic survey and GIS mapping * maintaining park drawings and records * other duties as assigned When possible, duties will be tailored to the incumbent's technical interests and goals. A uniform allowance will be provided. * You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime. * This position has a mixed work schedule based on the varying workload, and your work schedule is subject to change from part-time to full-time to on-call as workload dictates. * The entire period served under the Intern Program counts as a trial period. * You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 - 2 nights per month. * You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. * Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/20/2021-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). Pathways Eligibility Requirements: In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program: * You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the school (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum); AND * Enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as a high school or state-approved homeschool; or accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum; AND * Students currently enrolled must be in good academic standing, maintaining a 2.0 grade point average on a cumulative basis; AND * Provide proof of enrollment documentation as detailed in the 'Education' section. You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program. * AND- Qualification Requirements To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement. * EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least two (2) full academic years above high school that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as: civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or other engineering discipline(s) equivalent to the aforementioned. You must include transcripts.-OR- * EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of general work experience AND six (6) months of specialized work experience. General work experience is any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying, infrastructure design and evaluation, construction estimating, construction inspection, materials testing, architecture, civil, electrical or mechanical systems, etc.-OR- * COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education as defined above, and work experience as defined above, that when combined equal 100% of the qualification requirements. (For example, 1 full year of education (50%), and 6 months of specialized experience as defined above (50%), equals 100% of the qualification requirements.) You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement. * EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four (4) full years of study in a program leading to a bachelor's degree with either (a) major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as: civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or other discipline(s) equivalent to the aforementioned. You must include transcripts.-OR- * EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).
