CBP Aircraft Mechanic: San Diego


  • Responsible for overseeing and performing scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance; inspections and corrosion control of aircraft components, airframe and powerplant; maintain appropriate aircraft records and logs.

  • Reports to the Maintenance Manager and or Site Manager.

  • Must be customer oriented.


  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance.

  • Review work of subordinates to ensure the function/task is correct and complete and take corrective action and/or training if necessary.

  • Addresses employee questions and concerns presented within the work crew. If questions and concerns are not resolved, ensures that employee concerned is given the opportunity to seek further assistance through the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor,

  • Perform daily/postflight/thruflight inspections as required and performs necessary maintenance to correct any malfunctions.

  • Conduct offstation maintenance when required.

  • Effectively communicate with the customer in a courteous, professional manner and research any reported aircraft discrepancies through fault isolation to make repairs.

  • Service aircraft with fuel, oil, etc. in preparation for flight.

  • Maintain aircraft log books, status reports, historical and administrative data as required.

  • Comply with applicable Government and FAA rules and regulations on maintenance and follow appropriate aircraft technical data.

  • May be required to function as Safety/Training/Supply point of contact in the FBO concept at AOS-U or AOS-A site's.

  • May be required to exercise independent judgment and travel or relocate to other geographical locations including foreign countries.

  • May be required to have a security clearance and passport in the performance of duties.

  • Must be a US citizen and completed high school or equivalent.

  • Must read, write, speak, and understand English

  • Other task as assigned.












  • Must have Three (3) years recent experience working fulltime as an aircraft mechanic or (5) years of On Job Training.

  • Have a current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.

  • A thorough working knowledge in the repair and maintenance of airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems and aircraft engines.

  • Must be able to obtain a passport, visa and Government security clearance to support operations in foreign countries and deployments.

  • Must be able to work well with others or independently, predicated on the scope and depth of operations at specified sites.

  • Ability to physically perform climbing, stooping, stretching, etc. operations related to the job and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Analytical abilities sufficient to handle complex technical and administrative details.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and deal courteously and professionally with the customer.


This classification activity is usually accomplished in a office/hangar/flight line environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with office/hangar/flight line activities. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment:

The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

Manages and is responsible for all estimating functions that may be required during preconstruction including value engineering, alternative and comparative studies. Reports To: Chief Estimator Essential Duties & Responsibilities*: * Review quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate, and studies for all items incorporated in the assigned scope. * Take lead role in Lump Sum (LS) bids. * Review drawings, specifications and all other construction documents. Make senior management aware of design-related problems, completeness of documents and other potential risks. * Work in conjunction with Operations to ensure that detailed General Conditions/Requirement (GC/GRs) estimates are prepared, and review with others as needed. * Responsible for the value engineering process during preconstruction for the assigned projects. * Manage the Estimating Engineers and Assistant Estimating Engineers, including completing performance evaluations. * Ensure strict adherence to safety, Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), ethics and compliance requirements at all times. * Manage the allocation of work hours for staff assigned to projects to ensure it is within budgetary guidelines. * Communicate and collaborate with Operations and Purchasing during preconstruction efforts. * Develop and enhance owner, architect, subcontractor and vendor relations. * Analyze cost data, unit prices, back-page costs, and information that can be developed and used as a "rule of thumb" for all building systems estimated costs. * Responsible for the preparation of preliminary estimates and studies during preconstruction to monitor design development cost trends in order to detect over-runs and potential problem areas. * Ensure assigned tasks are completed and delivered within timeframes allotted. * Assist Purchasing in evaluating and analyzing subcontractor proposals. * Derive systems quantities for Building Information Models (BIM) and other estimating software in order to provide complete estimate. * Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, building construction or similar. Must have three (3) or more years of experience with a reputable General Contractor as an estimating engineer following experience in project engineering, field supervision or purchasing. Must have knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, trade practices across all disciplines, including foundations, superstructure, interiors, services and sitework. Must be a proven leader of the preconstruction process on a $50 million project or larger with minimal support from management, including development of GMPs, lump sum bids, design milestone-based estimate deliverables, procurement strategy and constructability. Additional qualifications include: Must have ability to work conceptually, with minimum information, and quickly develop an understanding of the owner/architect requirements. Must be technically competent to lead a target value process by making recommendations on product applications and performance data, including the application of cost with budget parameters defined by the owner/architect. Must have working knowledge of Uniformat and MasterFormat organizational approaches and ability to populate quantities and unit costs into standard software applications; experience with model-based estimating is a benefit. Should demonstrate imaginative, innovative and succinct approach to a project. Good leadership, verbal and written skills. Strong computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of programs and Turner's estimating software. Complete knowledge of the estimating documents and the ability to provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the documents. Must be able to multitask and meet established deadlines. Physical Demands: Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
