ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Inspect aircraft/support equipment, components, engines, and accessories for surface integrity or corrosion products in accordance with Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), Maintenance Check Lists (MCLs), and company work and maintenance instructions. Remove paint or other protective materials using approved tools, agents, and techniques.

Remove corrosion products using approved tools, equipment, and techniques. Prepare the surface for painting. Protect other surfaces or component parts not being painted by using masks, covers, or other approved techniques.

Coat surfaces or aircraft components, engines, or aeronautical support and appropriate materials, using approved equipment. Paint insignia, letters or numerals as required. Coordinate with supervision and Quality Control to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or on repair procedures.

Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area. Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials, and equipment as required. Document work accomplished or Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAFs). Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations including participation in FOD walk down when directed.

Responsible for adhering to the company tool control program. Comply with established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities, and job assignment. It may be required to perform simple computer input and extraction functions.

Perform preventative maintenance on assigned shop and support equipment. Comply with established hazardous waste program and Local, State, and Federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations. May be required to perform off-site services on assigned detachments.

Familiarization with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, Maintenance Instruction (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), Technical Directives (TDs), manufacturers manuals and company instructions. Maintain knowledge of material safety data sheets and applicable safety precautions. May be required to become Aircraft and Support Equipment Wheel and Tire qualified and certified.

Must be knowledgeable in handling and disposing of hazardous waste. Must have a valid state operator's license and be able to pass the Government licensing requirements. Must be able to read, speak, write legibly, and understand the English language.

Assist when directed to ensure safety, security, and preservation of Government-owned and company-owned equipment. May be required to perform duties of Hazardous Waste Coordinator, Chemical Waste Custodian, or Accumulation Point Coordinator when authorized and designated. May be required to perform duties of Wheel and Tire Technicians and assist other technicians, specialists, workers, and mechanics during periods of personal or sick leave, vacation, breaks, reserve duty, or during increased workload periods.

Must be able to wear a respirator when performing assigned duties. Perform other reasonable related incidental duties when directed.

Qualification Standards:

In the past six (6) years, must have three (3) years experience in painting aircraft with corrosion identification, removal, treatment, and preservation on aircraft and aircraft components, OR completion of T45 Cross Training Program. Must have satisfactorily completed a resident 40-hour course of instruction, removal, prevention, and treatment.

Aircraft painters must, in addition to the above, have successfully completed a resident 80-hour course of instruction on naval aircraft painting and touch-up equivalent to the Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP) paint course . Must have successfully completed and demonstrated competency in operating the FLASHJET System. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Must be able to obtain and maintain required clearance. Must have a valid state DL upon hire.

Physical Demands:

This classification activity is usually accomplished in a paint shop environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with this activity. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds.

Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. Must be able to have a safe fit around the face for a full respirator.

Must successfully pass a company physical prior to employment/promotion and annually thereafter.

Work Environment:

The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individuals to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.

May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

Must have the following within the first 6 months of hire, unless otherwise stated:

  • Formal/Specialized Training or Equivalent

  • Hazardous Waste Communications Trained

  • FOD and TCP Awareness Trained

  • Security Clearance Awareness Training

  • OPNAV INST 4790.2 Program Awareness

  • ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness

  • Government On-Line OMMA System Trained

  • Support Equipment Operators Certification

  • Collateral Duty Inspector (may be required)#

  • Respirator Trained and Fitted/ with Paint Physical

  • Egress System Checkout

  • Aircraft Brake Rider Certified

  • Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training

  • Aircraft Towing Certified

  • Valid State Drivers License (upon applying)
