Commercial Banking (CB) delivers extensive industry knowledge, local expertise and dedicated service to more than 24,000 global clients, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions and not-for-profit organizations along with nearly 35,000 real estate investors/owners. A CB-wide strategic priority is to ensure that we have best-in-class management metrics, analytics, and reporting programs in place to optimize operational performance, enabling continuous improvements in planning, efficiency, service, and control for various operations functions within CB.

The Business Analysis & Reporting Analyst will join the Middle Office team within Finance & Business Management, leading strategy and execution of business modeling and analytics programs. This is a high-visibility role with direct interaction and partnership with various senior managers within the bank. The successful candidate will learn core business processes and develop all people, process, and technology components required to support a best-in-class program delivering advanced analytics globally to solve tough business challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with senior leaders on advancing the business analysis and reporting agenda, focused on insights delivery in areas around staffing efficiency & staffing models, volume forecasts, comprehensive cost modeling and allocations, etc

  • Identify opportunities and applicable quantitative and statistical methodologies to deploy advanced analyses at scale for CB Middle Office functions

  • Participate in an innovation agenda, continually identifying and seeking to leverage the best available tools & techniques to improve the value and efficiency of financial related programs

  • Partner with other Business & Analytics teams to create dashboards for capacity modeling and client costing

  • Develop a deep understanding of systems and processes in order to extract insights from existing data while identifying and recommending enhancements to improve data quality

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of total experience within MIS, Analytics, and/or Management Consulting roles with a focus on Financial Services; experience supporting banking operations preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data architecture and warehousing concepts with proven ability to support and/or manage enterprise level data initiatives with senior leadership visibility

  • Strong Data Science background and experience in Big Data platforms and technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Spark, etc.)

  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge and experience with various analytical, modeling and statistical methodologies

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - must have the ability to build strong working relationships with the management team and team members within the business

  • Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment

  • Competent in the use of data technology to solve complex business problems, with hands-on expertise in the use of multiple Business Intelligence toolsets and database platforms; examples include Qlik Sense, Tableau, Python, R, SQL/Oracle/Teradata, Alteryx

  • BA / BS; advanced study / quantitative focus a plus

This role will be responsible for supporting a fast-growing global organization through partnering with key business stakeholders to deliver critical business initiatives and closely collaborate with business partners on financial analysis and forecasting. The candidate will have dynamic responsibilities associated with providing technical accounting guidance for revenue recognition matters pertaining to new customer contracts and new development, under US GAAP, reviewing complex client contracts, establishing operational processes, supporting a timely and accurate revenue reporting and analysis, and month-end closing. This position will also play a critical role in developing and enhancing the revenue accounting team's policies and procedures, in addition to participating in business-critical projects including the implementation of a new revenue accounting system, M&A activities, and on-going process improvement. Your key responsibilities * Collaborate closely with key business partners, for example, Product Finance, Legal, Sales, Run Rate, Tax, and Billing to deliver critical business initiatives and identify value opportunities * Review and analyze MSCI's client transactions, particularly partnership deals, to ensure appropriate revenue recognition treatment, perform relevant research, present and document conclusions to be in compliance with US GAAP * Assess and implement changes to contractual agreements for accounting impacts and potential reporting needs * Exhibit strong technical understanding of revenue processes to provide perspective on opportunities and solutions for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting and reporting principally related to revenue processes * Perform financial reporting including key performance indicators (KPI) and variance analysis and provide insightful information on revenue trends * Perform revenue operations, which includes execution of monthly revenue close, variance analysis, and account reconciliations for revenue and related accounts agreements * Develop and enhance procedures and policies governing existing and future revenue accounting processes * Support audits performed by internal audit, external audit, legal entity, and SOX teams * Contribute and support special projects as assigned, including mergers and acquisitions accounting considerations and drive finance functional transformation projects Your skills and experience that will help you excel * 3 to 5 years in Accounting or Finance related field and Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance * Certified Public Accountant (CPA) * Public accounting (Big 4 is a plus) and/or industry accounting experience with multi-national public companies which comply with U.S. GAAP * Proficient with US GAAP, including some experience in ASC 606, preferably in Software or Financial Service industry.
