Position Description:

Ensures the catering department meets the hospital needs, through proper conference room set-ups, tasty and proper temperature food and clean-up.

  • Oversees all aspect of the catering department.

  • Manages assistant on busy days to be productive.

  • Demonstrates ability through-out shift to successfully work the positions.

  • Communicates well with evening/weekend supervisors on any catering in his/her absence.

  • Works at a rate consistent of other workers.

  • Hot food/salads/sandwiches/etc. are prepared in a tasty and eye appealing way.

  • Keeps catering room clean and organized.

  • Requires minimum amount of supervision.

  • Keeps a clean and organized work area when prepping for a function.

  • Conference rooms are correctly set-up in a timely manner. Tables, boards and floors are clean including empty trashcans.

  • Food is delivered 15-minutes prior to request.

  • Practices professional relations skills with patients, guest, other department staff and co-workers. Notifies supervisor on any problems encountered.

  • Catering supplies are put in catering room before leaving for the day. Nothing left in kitchen.

  • Demonstrates infection control skills including wash hands regularly and wearing hair restraints.

  • Adjust work schedule to meet catering needs.

  • Assist in other areas of department when catering schedule is light.

  • Attends Mandatory Department Meetings and educational in-services.

  • Performs other related functions as assigned.


Position Requirements:


  • High school graduate or GED


  • 6 months of related experience

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to organize, follow written and verbal instructions and demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

In addition, responsible for Quality Assurance follow-up including maintaining logs for QA audits. Key Responsibilities: * Supervises all catering events. * Involved in catering events operations, including logistics, quality improvement, sanitation, and all facility-related activities. * Works with the Chef in creating menus. * Trains catering associates in service techniques, menu presentation, and customer service. * Tracks and monitors the labor and food cost for each event. * Communicates on various levels to include management, client, customer and associate levels; maintains excellent client relationships. * Assists in the responsibility for all foodservice-related activities. * Promotes, enforces, maintains and verifies Quality Assurance (QA) and safety reporting standards * Participates in all BOH inspections and external Audits * Trains associates on all QA policies and procedures and maintain accurate records Preferred Qualifications: * 2 years of food service experience including 1 year at the management level. * Catering management experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations. * Knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation. * Financial, budgetary, accounting and computational skills. * Working knowledge of food regulations, i.e. FDA, USDA, and industry practice * Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet. * ServSafe Certification. * Associate's degree is preferred.
