VIEW JOBS 3/23/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-21T00:00 GLEN ELLYN PARK DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Parks Specialist I DEPARTMENT:Parks SUPERVISION: Assistant Superintendent of Parks SUMMARY: Responsible for on-going park improvements and maintenance including, but not limited to: mowing, trimming, athletic field layout/maintenance, turfgrass, irrigation, horticulture, painting, playground repairs, trash pickup, janitorial services (cleaning washrooms), snow plowing, ice making and other duties as assigned by supervisors Note: The duties listed are not set forth for the purpose of limiting the assignment of work. They are not to be construed as a complete list of the many duties normally to be performed under a job title to those to be performed temporarily outside an employee's normal line of work. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions * Must be 18 years of age or older * Have a valid Class C CDL IL driver's license or obtain one within 6 month of hire * Must possess a Illinois Pesticide Operator License or obtain one within 6 months of hire * Individual must be able to lift 50 lbs. * Must have a High School diploma or equivalent * 2 years verifiable experience in parks department or related field preferred * Ability to write and communicate in English required * Able to work outdoors, in all weather conditions * Basic computer skills are required; EX. Email and Microsoft Word * Successful candidate should posses knowledge and be skilled with hand/power tools and be able to operate all park district vehicles/equipment (i.e. backhoe, large production mowers, snow removal equipment, tractors, and trailers) * Be able to represent the Park District in a professional manner while addressing customer questions and comments * Communicate regularly with supervisors on project updates, supplies, equipment issues, and safety concerns * Seek to establish cooperative working relationships with coworkers and community * Be available for work during regular office hours, evenings and weekend as needed, schedules may be changed to meet the demands of the District. * Be part of an on-call rotation to respond to District issues outside of normal work hours * Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required * Have a thorough understanding of the Park District's policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner * Must follow, administer and implement Glen Ellyn Park District policies and procedures * Perform other duties as assigned * Individual must pass a drug and/or alcohol screening and a health physical * CPO, AFO or other parks related licenses or certifications a plus Safety Responsibilities: * Actively support the loss control program that will effectively control and reduce accidents * Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the loss control program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department * Promptly report to the supervisor all accidents and injuries occurring within the course of employment, no matter how minor * Promptly report to the supervisor and safety coordinator all unsafe actions, practices or conditions observed * Cooperate with and assist in the investigation of accidents to identify causes and corrective measures to prevent their recurrence * Make sure the necessary safety equipment and protection devices for each job are used and maintained properly * Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in hazardous operations or areas as defined in the policy manual * Steel toe boots are to be worn at all times 9.Assist with emergency procedures Psychological Considerations: * Worker must seek to establish cooperative working relationships with coworkers * Worker must be able to clearly and politely interact/communicate with park patrons and the general public Physiological Considerations: * Worker could be exposed to chemicals (i.e. fertilizers, herbicides, cleaning agents) * Worker could be exposed to gasoline, diesel, and other engine fluids * Prolonged exposure to loud noises and small engines * Worker must be able to work at heights above 6 feet (i.e. climb ladders, use aerial lifts, etc.) Environmental Considerations: * The worker may be exposed to all outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice * Appropriate clothing and steel toe boots are required for this position, which are not supplied by the Glen Ellyn Park District. It would be the responsibility of the employee to purchase these before their first day of employment This is an at-will position Pay: $14.00 - $16.00, DOQ.
