The Category Manager for Walmart, based out of Bentonville, is a key strategic position and works shoulder to shoulder with the cross functional Walmart merchant team and its supply base to optimize the Walmart shopper experience, deliver exceptional value, and accelerate category growth. The Category Manager will be looked to build trust, confidence, and reliance within Walmart taking ownership of the modular relay process, one that is informed by facts, a strategic point of view, and shaped by close collaboration with merchant leadership. This position reports to the VP of Product and Brand Management.

Essential Job Functions

  • Trusted advisor to Walmart pool merchant team (buyer, replenishment, planning)

  • Develop deep connective tissue across Walmart, building relationships which will enhance effectiveness and productivity of the category team and foster high levels of collaboration

  • Provide strategic, fact supported, recommendation to Walmart merchant team on distribution, shelving, and merchandising

  • Act as subject matter expert in assigned category and provide thought leadership to external customers as well as internal constituents

  • Taking ownership of the modular drawing process for the Spring and Fall pool sets with a demonstrated passion for localized assortment

  • Partner with the Product Management team to deliver impactful and actionable recommendations derived from full market view/category view to Walmart to drive accelerated category growth

  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of third party data (e.g. Shopper Research, POS, loyalty card information, registry, etc. as applicable) into actionable insights

  • Works closely with Walmart merchant team in the development and continued evolution of its pool chemical strategy

  • Knowledgeable about Market, Channel & Customer performance at the Category, Manufacturer, Brand and Product Line level

  • Development and iteration of consumer decision tree and application to enhance shopability of category

  • Optimizing path to purchase across Omni-channel and understand shopping behavior differences between store and E-commerce.

  • Create tools and capabilities to optimize merchandise assortment based on Walmart specific objectives

  • Contribute to the line review process, make recommendations on range, category space allocations and develop POGs using space planning software

  • Weekly sales analysis and reporting across the category

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines

  • Manage flow of information and requests from Buyer, Sales and Trade teams, Business Segments, etc.

  • Ability to prioritize and resource projects effectively

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 5+ years CPG industry experience, including 2+ years Category Management

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated proficiency and mastery of ProSpace, Retail Link, and Microsoft productivity suite (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Deep understanding of the modular creation and drawing process

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Creative problem solver with the ability to deliver a persuasive fact supported point of view across all levels of merchant leadership

  • Strong organization, communication, and presentation skills

  • Experienced in seasonal categories a plus

This position is based in KIK's Bentonville office, which houses our pool chemicals, household, and automotive teams. The category captain will report directly to BioLab's VP of Marketing and strict firewalls have been established to insulate the category captain from the commercial team given the confidentiality requirement attendant to the role.
