This role of Category Management Consultant position supports Dominion Energy's Gas Infrastructure Group, which includes Dominion Energy's gas transmission pipeline and facilities and gas distribution service lines and facilities. There are gas assets in several states, including: Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. This person will be responsible for strategic sourcing category management initiatives across all these entities.
Dominion Energy is looking for individuals with experience to identify, plan, and execute a strategic sourcing strategy to support gas transmission and gas distribution activities. This individual will work with finance, supply chain sourcing specialists, and internal business unit engineering and operations personnel to develop the longterm sourcing strategy for gas infrastructure projects. He/She will be responsible for determining long term needs through category/commodity management, spend data analysis and collaboration with internal stakeholders in the areas of pipeline construction, general construction, gas pipeline support services, and Materials, (specifically Pipe Valves, Fittings and compressors/compressor engines). Once sourcing needs are identified the individual will lead cross functional teams to plan, develop, identify/evaluate potential suppliers, evaluate supplier proposals, negotiate agreements, and execute these strategic agreements. This individual will also establish and execute supplier performance management programs for strategic suppliers identified through this process.
This position requires 25-50% travel.
Qualified applicants must have at least 7 years of strategic procurement/sourcing experience, with a preference to experience in gas utilities sector.
This individual's role will include but is not limited to:
Set meaningful category savings targets and deliver savings results by implementing procurement strategies that are based on TCO analysis and innovation
Perform category management, also known as commodity management of assigned areas in Pipeline Construction, General Construction, Materials (Pipe, Valve Fittings, Compressors), and other Non-construction services such as inspection services, engineering services, Wellsite Services, Land ROW services
Develop, build, and present strategic plans for assigned spend categories
Proactively engage and collaborate with Business Unit customers on strategic sourcing goals, category strategies, initiatives, and savings targets
Lead the formulation of sourcing strategies and negotiation of key terms for highly-complex sourcing events
Lead cross-functional, enterprise-wide savings initiatives
Effectively communicate initiative updates and savings targets across the organization
Analyze relevant markets and assess cost impacts of market events for assigned spend categories
Maintain supplier lists for assigned spend categories and build partnerships with strategic suppliers
Maintain relationship with supplier senior executives
Ability to work effectively with groups (both SCM and Business Unit employees) at different company locations, with limited in person interaction.
Travel as needed to meet with Business Unit customers and suppliers (expected travel up to 1 week per month)
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
This role may be located in Richmond, Va, Akron, OH or Salt Lake City Utah.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
7+ years of procurement and/or strategic sourcing
3+ years of procurement experience in the gas utility or pipeline industries (preferred)
Strong understanding of business cost drivers
Hands-on understanding of business processes and objectives
Developing knowledge of assigned categories
Excellent project management skills with ability to resolve problems and remove barriers to success
Ability to navigate organization and influence decisions
Demonstrated ability to develop a structured negotiation strategy and implement the strategy
Strong analytic toolset that will support the creation of financial targets, detailed analysis of spend data, and structure of TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) models
Strong mentoring skills
Category or Commodity Management Experience
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Advanced knowledge of pipeline construction, construction, gas support services or gas materials is desirable
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education. Master or Business Administration or Post Graduate work is a plus.
