Position Summary

Exercises independent discretion or judgment in handling all types of catastrophe property claims. Also assists assigned field office when not on catastrophe deployment in handling day to day property claims.

This is a work from home position and a company car will be provided.

The successful candidate will live in Roanoke, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, Franklin, Henry, Botetourt, Rockingham, Augusta, Nelson, Rockbridge, and or surrounding areas (Roanoke/Waynesboro Office territories)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes immediate contact with Policyholders regarding their loss, driving to site of damage within assigned territory or other if required.

  • Sets and manages adequate reserves within designated authority.

  • Properly identifies and assesses damage. Determines liability and total value of claim.

  • Prepares a proper estimate relating to the identified damages and obtains an agreed scope of work and cost of repair with contractor and/or Policyholder.

  • Properly documents claim files with all activities and submits final report to file for closure.

  • Determines or declines payment and issues checks as required. Negotiates claims with plaintiff attorneys when necessary.

  • Assigns and supervises the handling of property losses by independent adjusters when necessary. Advises claims adjusters regarding handling of claims.

  • Attends industry-related training programs to stay current on legal developments and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations impacting the operation of the department.

  • Assists assigned field office(s) as necessary when not on Catastrophe Duty; brings assigned property claims to conclusion.

  • Provides monthly operational maintenance of the Sprinter Van attached to the office where the CAT adjuster is domiciled.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Five years of previous experience in residential and/or commercial property claims handling, to include strong technical knowledge of structural damage repair and valuation techniques, or equivalent, required. Haag Certification or willingness to pursue, required.

Successful completion of an accepted property estimating training program or five years of previous experience in construction required. Successful completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) program preferred. Proficiency with estimating software (preferably Symbility) or equivalent, preferred. Appropriate license as required by state. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Incumbent must live in the territory assigned unless a change is approved by the company. Position requires the incumbent to serve on the Catastrophe Team as a first responder which will include frequent travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.

Also responsible for servicing assigned territory and may handle litigated claims. * This is a remote position. * A company car will be provided. * Candidates with above minimum qualifications may be considered for a Property Adjuster II position. Number of years and scope of experience determine level. * Candidate will need to live in and service Pittsylvania, Martinsville, Halifax and Danville Counties. Duties and Responsibilities * Contacts Policyholders regarding property claims within level of authority. Conducts investigations, interviews insureds and witnesses, inspects damage and prepares estimates. Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding coverage of claims. * Handles property claims within designated authority. Sets and maintains adequate reserves. Obtains and reviews reports, statements, records and related materials as required. Evaluates information to determine coverage and total value of claim. Determines payments and issues checks or declines payment as required. * Documents claim files and submits final report to file for closure. * Identifies subrogation situations and initiates appropriate action. * Services assigned territory and brings assigned claims to conclusion. * Interacts with Agents and district sales managers on matters of mutual concern. * Handles property claims involving damages or coverage. May handle litigated claims, including negotiating with plaintiff attorney, or coordinates litigation with defense counsel as required. * Develops and applies a working knowledge of estimating practices and procedures relating to the adjustment of property claims. * Attends industry-related training programs and attends other training sessions to stay current on policy changes, interpretation or new legislation. * Successfully completes Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire date. * Participates on Catastrophe Team when required.
