Find the perfect opportunity to demonstrate your advanced bibliographical research and cataloging abilities by applying your real-world book trade knowledge and experience in our unique environment!Heritage Auctions headquartered in Dallas Texas with offices in, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, London, Hong Kong and other cities, is the 3rdlargest auction house in the world with 40 different Auction categories includingCoins,Sports,Comics,Historical,Jewelry, Fine & Decorative Art, Wine and manymore.SUMMARY:Our Rare Books Department is seeking an Advanced Rare Book Cataloger to write bibliographically accurate descriptions of rare books, manuscripts, prints, maps and related printed collectibles material for preparation of auction catalogs and other related duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create advanced catalog descriptions of rare books, historical manuscripts, prints, maps and related materials for upcoming auctions in the Rare Books department
  • Effectively research and make inquiries necessary to gather and confirm factual information for descriptions
  • Proof/edit description text and review images for catalog production
  • Prioritize lots based on estimated values and determine the appropriate length of associated description copy
  • Work with prospective bidders to help answer questions about lots as potential purchases
  • Able to lift boxes of material, up to 50 pounds
  • Travel possible for auctions, book fairs, etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors degree required, major in English or History a plus
  • Experience in the rare book trade and/or Library degree is a must
  • Possess advanced knowledge of bibliographic texts and techniques
  • Possess expertise specifically with incunables and early printed books
  • Proficient in a foreign language a plus
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to multitask and pay great attention to detail
  • Demonstrated prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines in a hectic and dynamic environment
  • Works well independently and in a team environment

VIEW JOBS 11/29/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-02-27T00:00 Do you have knowledge of comic books? Set your sights on a high-profile career in our highly dynamic and exciting environment. Heritage Auctions headquartered in Dallas Texas with offices in, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, London, Hong Kong and other cities, is the 3<sup>rd</sup> largest auction house in the world with 40 different Auction categories including Coins, Sports, Comics, Historical, Jewelry, Fine & Decorative Art, Wine and many more.<br /> <br /> <strong>SUMMARY:</strong> Responsible for cataloging consignments of comic books, original comic book art, and comic book-related memorabilia, and for providing expert opinion of these items to consignors, bidders, the public in general, and associates in other auction venues.  <br />  <br /> <strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong> include the following.  <ul> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Writes descriptions for online and catalog display based on notes from consignor, own knowledge and expertise, and upon reference materials, such as The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, with which the candidate should be very familiar</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Answers inquiries that arrive via telephone, email, and in-person</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Assists at department functions, including auctions, exhibits, and shows</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Other duties may be assigned</li> </ul>  <br /> <strong>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:</strong> <ul> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Must have a high school degree or equivalent,</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Minimum of 2 years education and/or experience in working with comic books, comic book art, or comic-related memorabilia, or the ability to demonstrate comparable expertise</li> </ul>  <br /> <strong>SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</strong> <ul> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Familiarity with the history of comics, comic book artists, titles, publishers, and collecting terminology</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Excellent communication skills, especially writing skills</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Exceptional customer service skills</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Knowledge of how to handle and protect collectibles</li> <li style="padding: 0; margin: 0;" style="padding: 0; margin: 0;">Ability to multitask, pay attention to detail, and have a positive attitude while managing time efficiently</li> </ul>  <br /> <strong>PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS</strong>: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to withstand long periods of sitting and looking at a computer monitor, and of taking and making phone calls on a daily basis.
