Summary of Position: The Catalog Librarian is responsible for cataloging University Libraries resources in all formats to ensure discovery of and access to print, digital, and multimedia items. Additionally, the Catalog Librarian collaborates to develop, maintain, and manage library collections.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform original and copy cataloging of library materials using appropriate cataloging standards such as MARC21, RDA, AACR2, or other established guidelines
Assign Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), or other classification schemes to ensure consistent access points for users
Ensure accuracy and completeness of bibliographic records, including descriptive metadata and subject analysis
Maintain and enhance the library's online catalog (OPAC) by regularly updating bibliographic records, authority files, and holdings information
Monitor database integrity and resolve any data quality issues to ensure reliable access to library resources
Collaborate with library staff to implement system updates, enhancements, and troubleshooting
Manage authority control processes to ensure consistency and accuracy in names, subjects, and other access points
Establish and maintain authority records for personal names, corporate bodies, and uniform titles to facilitate resource discovery and retrieval
Stay informed about changes and updates in authority data and implement revisions as necessary
Oversee metadata creation and maintenance for digital collections, institutional repositories, or other digital library initiatives
Develop and implement metadata schemas and standards for digital resources to enhance discoverability and interoperability
Collaborate with digitization and repository staff to ensure consistency and quality of metadata across digital projects
Develop and document cataloging policies, procedures, and best practices to guide staff in cataloging workflows and decision-making
Provide training and support to library staff on cataloging standards, tools, and practices
Stay abreast of changes and developments in cataloging rules, standards, and technologies and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders
Provide reference and assistance to library users in locating and accessing materials in the catalog
Collaborate with subject specialists and liaisons to promote library collections and services through outreach activities, instruction sessions, and resource guides
Participate in library committees, task forces, and projects to support user needs and advance library initiatives
Engage in ongoing professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops, and training sessions related to cataloging and metadata
Contribute to the profession through research, publications, presentations, or participation in professional organizations
Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in cataloging and metadata management

Required Skills
Proficient in AACR2, RDA, LCSH, DDC classifications, USMARC formats, and metadata standards
Familiarity with or willingness to learn ILS Systems such as Alma Primo (Clarivate), Folio (EBSCO), and Sierra (III/Clarivate)
Strong attention to detail, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Adaptability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments
Proficiency in Office 365 and relevant Microsoft programs
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting
Capable of managing multiple projects and priorities concurrently
