Responsible for investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of first party catastrophe property claims by performing the following duties:

This is an inside desk adjuster/desk examiner role for the Catastrophe Claims Department.

  • Interprets and applies policy coverage to loss.

  • Communicates policy coverage and benefits to insured.

  • Investigates and documents cause of loss and area of origin.

  • Creates, reviews, and approves estimates for the cost of repairs or replacement of damaged or destroyed property.

  • Reports findings of investigation, coverage interpretation and damage estimates to company.

  • Negotiates with insured, contractors, vendors, public adjusters and attorneys.

  • Complies with timeliness, accuracy and service standards of the company.

  • Complies with the legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains appropriate adjusters license and complies with continuing education requirements.

  • Identifies and documents subrogation opportunities.

  • Identifies and addresses salvage of damage or destroyed items.

  • Identifies and investigates questionable and possible fraudulent activity.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Duties specific to Catastrophe Response:

  • Expected to work extended hours/days during catastrophe response.

  • May need to assist as subject matter expert in the onboarding/training/assistance of independent catastrophe adjusters.

  • May need to serve in Team Lead role at times of high volume and catastrophe response

  • May be called on to assist in catastrophe orientations, emergency response assist stations and onsite assistance of independent adjusting partners that could involve some limited travel.

QualificationsJob Responsibilities and

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year College or University or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 620 FLDFS all lines company adjuster license.

  • Own and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Ensures that all assigned claims are concluded equitably and promptly.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and organizational skills.

  • Strong computer skills, i.e. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and web based programs.

  • Ability to understand the long-term and short-term perspectives of situations.

Uses varying methods of investigation, including taking recorded statements, consulting with police, inspecting property damage, and reviewing documents. Identifies and communicates potential underwriting concerns. Estimates cost of repair, replacement, or compensation. Sets appropriate case reserves; revises case reserves in assigned files to cover probable costs. Submits assignments to vendors. Manages diaries and tasks in the Claims System. Prepares report of findings and negotiates settlement. Prepares settlement letters, denial letters, Reservation of Rights, and other letters as needed. Writes clear and concise diary notes, uses the Special Handling area, sets field assignments, sets and saves contacts, and makes payments. Recognizes the need for SIU involvement and identifies files for potential subrogation. Effectively manages pending files in accordance with Claims Best Practices. Appropriately applies knowledge of multiple state statutes, including the insurance code of ethics, rules, regulations and guidelines. Determines whether a file has a valid Assignment of Benefits and handles accordingly. Effectively handles difficult calls from customers, vendors, and others. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications Bachelor’s degree; four years of prior work experience with a history of high performance within financial services, customer service, construction, property management, or related field; or some combination thereof. Minimum one year of claims experience required. Property and casualty experience helpful. Motivation to lead an adjuster’s life. Willingness to work flexible shifts, 7 days per week with 12-hour shifts for major catastrophes, and overtime as needed for claim spikes.
