Your primary role will be to lead functional teams in conducting in-depth evaluation of vendor and other CAT models and platforms, researching into and developing internal views of modeled and non-modeled risks, conducting account-specific risk analyses, conducting detailed site-specific risk assessments including engineering analyses and site-inspections, developing internal tools to facilitate account underwriting decision-making, and other related activities. The Senior/Principal Catastrophe Engineer opportunity is in our San Francisco, CA location.

Essential Job Functions

  • Evaluation of vendor (AIR / RMS) CAT models and other models and platforms; research into modeled and non-modeled risks; development of internal CAT models and tools

  • Conducting account and property-specific risk analyses including probabilistic assessment of seismic, wind, and flood risk emphasizing the interplay between site-inspections (exposure characteristics), engineering analyses, and hazard analyses

  • Critical analysis of AIR / RMS models' account and portfolio level loss results

  • Providing technical support and training to internal clients; external client interaction

  • Research into property damage following CAT events to inform internal views of risk

  • Conducting real-time loss analyses to estimate loss to company portfolio

  • Analyze impact of model and software changes on portfolio; explain drivers of loss change

  • Support India operations in account modeling; development of modeling guidelines

  • Contribute in all aspects of catastrophe analytics, research, modeling, and engineering

Requirements

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Hydrology, Engineering Seismology, Structural Engineering (emphasis Earthquake or Wind) or related field

  • 5+ years' experience in engineering, applied research, or CAT modeling

  • Engineering license or equivalent

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Skilled in critical thinking and analysis

  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, and team player

  • Strong programming skills (C++, MATLAB, GIS, others) is a plus

This includes marketing mix modeling, predictive analytics and ROI analysis to generate insights that will drive revenue and share growth while optimizing expense, as well as be responsible for data driven customer segmentation, market basket and product loyalty analysis, and Consultant Success modeling. You will introduce innovative techniques and methodologies that will uncover growth opportunities, outmaneuvering the competition. You have the soul of a data scientist and the heart of a mentor. Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities * Manage, lead and grow Rodan + Fields' Advanced Analytics capability globally. Strong leadership & motivation skills – ability to work collaboratively, influence and motivate. Review objectives and evaluate success of team and function against core company objectives. * Performs statistical data analysis on large data sets, resulting in impactful insights and outcomes. Develops analytic solutions based on multivariate statistics, including regression-based modeling, various predictive modeling tools, descriptive statistical techniques, and statistical diagnostic techniques (significance testing, model fit, etc.) * Create models, monitors results, and develops and executes hypotheses for improving models * Logically integrates information from multiple resources and effectively translate complex analytical concepts to consumable insights for business owners and communicate insights from analysis to multiple teams throughout organization * Support business owners in hypothesis development and empirical thinking, on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. * Collaborates with Product Marketing, Field Development, Operations, and other Analytics teams to develop and execute analytic outputs, implement projects, complete tasks, and fulfill plans to ensure timely and efficient analysis, modeling, evaluation and reporting * Work with Executives to build work a transparent work queue, opportunity assessment and delivery and resourcing plans * Develops creative and innovative analytical solutions for problem solving. Implement strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Prepare written analysis and presents findings and recommendations to key marketing leaders. Communicate changes in business trends to c-level executives and provide guidance as to the overall impact. * Manage third parties as they build out models or analytics on our behalf, ensuring results are vetted for accuracy and validity * Identifies actionable insights, suggests recommendations, and influences the direction of the business by effectively communicating results to marketing and cross functional groups. * Partner with data engineering and IT teams to define strategies and roadmap for data acquisition, analytic platforms, and integrating model out into the data architecture that drive action into the business systems. Qualifications * B.S. or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Visual Sciences, Engineering, Statistics, or other relevant technical field. M.S. or Ph.D. preferred. * Minimum of 10 years of applied analytics and data analysis experience, working with complex datasets. Minimum of 5 years people management experience required. * Leading distributed teams across a variety of time zones and cultures * Expert knowledge of probability and statistics, including experimental design, predictive modeling, optimization, and causal inference * Familiarity with machine learning concepts: regression and classification, clustering, feature selection, curse of dimensionality, bias-variance tradeoff, neural networks, SVMs, etc. * Expert knowledge of a statistical language such as R or Python/pandas * Familiarity with a scripting language and/or shell scripting * Demonstrated ability to plan and organize analytical work and deliverables. Able to lead cross functional teams to consensus decisions on complex and technical data challenges. * Familiarity using and integrating predictive algorithms with business intelligence tools or dashboard systems a plus * Direct sales channel experience a plus * Preferred: Experience with Big Data systems, analysis and modeling.
