SompoRe has a unique opportunity for a Reinsurance Casualty Treaty Underwriter [Vice President] in our Casualty Treaty Global Reinsurance team.

The position within SompoRe will work closely with the rest of the Casualty Treaty Reinsurance team as well as other disciplines to execute core underwriting functions, supporting the achievement of the unit's overall financial strategy and goals. This position will be accountable for underwriting new and renewal business focused on General Liability/ Auto Liability/ Workers' Compensation; Excess and Umbrella business building and maintaining productive relationships with key reinsurance brokers and consistently focusing on underwriting profitability.

This individual will contribute to the overall casualty treaty reinsurance portfolio that drives a very large component of the overall Company's portfolio.

What you'll be doing:

  • Underwriter will develop, manage and evaluate new and renewal Casualty treaty business focused on General Liability, Auto Liability, Workers' Compensation, Excess and Umbrella lines of business. Assist with selected Program Business.

  • Analyze reinsurance submissions and negotiate appropriate terms.

  • Develop and maintains long-term strategic business relationships with top brokers and cedants throughout the region to drive new business opportunities as well as continually prospects for new opportunities to support profitable business growth.

  • Participate in underwriting audits and frequent client-facing discussions; be prepared to discuss strategic underwriting issues with insurance company clients.

  • Demonstrate underwriting curiosity. Stay abreast of industry trends and developments, with a focus on how they will impact the Casualty lines.

  • Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Actuarial team to evaluate the pricing of accounts.

  • Evaluate and negotiate contract wordings.

  • Collaborate with Claims team to support account management.

  • Comply with all pertinent internal guidelines and authorities.

  • Other duties as required by management.

What you'll bring:

  • Min 8 years of demonstrated success in a comparable P&C treaty underwriting role. Reinsurance background preferred.

  • Industry Knowledge: Understands the local casualty insurance marketplace, industry business operations, critical issues and financial drivers that affect our clients as well as the business unit; Is able to apply that understanding to the sales plan, pricing strategy and underwriting strategy.

  • Product Knowledge: Knowledge of General Liability/Auto Liability /Workers' Compensation, Excess and Umbrella products, coverages and pricing. Experience with Program business would be a plus.

  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, analytical, organizational and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work independently and work as part of a high performing team; Team player.

  • Ability to prioritize and eager to learn.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment and excellent problem solving skills.

  • Ability to establish close working relationship with other departments including claims & actuarial.

Salary Range: $200,000 - $270,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
