The Certified Pharmacy Technician, under direct pharmacist supervision, is responsible for maintenance of medication distribution systems within the Adena Health System. The Certified Pharmacy Technician, is responsible for assisting with all aspects of pharmacy business provided in hospital, cancer center, and home care pharmacy. Skills and training may be varied depending on the specific services provided within each entity. Decisions are made in collaboration with a pharmacist. This position may provide direct patient care and has access to patient and financial confidential information, non-controlled and controlled drugs and certain hospital funds.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain customer/patient confidentiality according to HIPAA and Adena standards and comply with all federal and state laws, rules and regulations and adhere to all Adena policy and procedures.

  • Access, input and retrieve information to/from the computer as well as maintain medication inventory per Adena policy and procedure. May be required to demonstrate proficiency in computer systems including Meditech, QS1, Pyxis, CPR+ and others as necessary.

  • Physician drug orders and charges are processed in an accurate and timely manner. The Certified Pharmacy Technician may be asked to fill outpatient prescriptions in accordance with Adena policy and procedures as well as resolve any Third Party billing rejections.

  • Maintain a clean, organized and professional pharmacy department, according to Adena and other regulatory standards. Retrieve and file prescriptions appropriately according to State and Federal Law.

  • Prepare products, including small and large volume additives, chemotherapy, epidurals and parenteral nutrition solutions, topical and oral medications. These products must be accurately prepared and using aseptic technique when required.

  • Requests for stock orders for all areas including automated dispensing units, pharmacy areas, non-pharmacy locations and mobile drug containers are filled and documented. The Certified Pharmacy Tech may be asked to deliver prescriptions to the bedside, ensuring they are filled and delivered in accordance with pharmacy procedures within specific time limits and perform all cash register functions/transactions.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, required. Active status with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Technician, Ohio State Board of Pharmacy Intern license or Nationally Certified Tech with active status with OSBP as Tech Trainee or Registered Tech with 6 month deadline to become Certified Tech, Active status with OSBP. Previous experience preferred.
