Department Overview

The Chaplaincy department provides support to families, spiritual assessment and working with families experiencing a crisis. In addition, the serve as an outreach to community clergy, facilitate in religious rituals in the hospital (I.e. baptism) and provide support to staff.

Position Summary

The Bereavement Coordinator manages bereavement services throughout the hospital, utilizing a variety of mechanisms including clinical services to families, education of staff and public about end- of-life and bereavement issues, development and implementation of bereavement services/programming/special events, coordination and oversight of the bereavement follow-up program, quality assurance and program evaluation, and oversight of the bereavement program budget.

Education:

• Bachelor's level training in qualified field (chaplain, social worker, RN, counselor, child life specialist, music therapist, or equivalent); Master's preferred.

Experience:

• 3-5 years' experience working as human service professional in a health care environment.

• Program development and evaluation.

• Provision of bereavement support services.

• Experience in hospice, counseling, or other areas dealing with grieving and bereavement, one year experience in pediatric bereavement care preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Current grief and bereavement theory.

• Demonstrated knowledge of multicultural expressions of grief.

• Group facilitation and/or individual counseling.

• Public speaking, teaching and training.

• Ability to collaborate with staff throughout the Children's system to provide exceptional bereavement care.

• Ability to provide multicultural care to diverse populations.

• Ability to manage and use databases.

• Creative

• Organized

• Computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary groups of professionals.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The posted pay range represents rates for a grouping of multiple jobs within a salary grade. We carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Children's Minnesota.
