  • Maintains the highest standards to ensure the quality and cleanliness in the casino, public areas, offices and other required areas.

  • Keeps the assigned areas maintained in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Cleans between slot machines, removes papers, glasses, debris, and discards all empty bottles.

  • Wipes down all slot machines, change booths and change banks in assigned areas.

  • Keeps assigned area clean of debris and trash removed.

  • Empties and cleans ashtrays/urns and trashcans.

  • Keeps all equipment properly maintained, clean, and free of marks.

  • Cleans all bathrooms in assigned areas outlined in job procedures and as trained.

  • Reports emergencies and maintenance needs to Supervisor.

  • Assists other areas as needed.

  • Clean-ups bio-hazards according to proper procedures.

  • Performs all other job related duties as requested.

Required:

  • At least 6 months of experience in Environmental Services, public area or comparable positions.

  • Ability to withstand prolonged walking, standing, bending, pushing, climbing and kneeling.

  • Work indoors and outdoors and be exposed to environmental factors such as excessive noise, seasonal heat and cold, hard to reach and unclean work areas, cigarette smoke, and hazardous materials and equipment.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.

  • Professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a similar resort setting.

The porter position is an On Call Position. The porter is to listen for the radio from all departments including the Navigation and the purser's station in a case of emergency. Other duties of the porter are to assist in the followings: Assist guests off and on the vessel if needed, Assist in deliveries such as weekly stores and storage, assist in laundry if needed, assist the cabin attendants with their supplies from downstairs to take upstairs to their appropriate decks, do a dirty towel run if needed, bring their trash to the trash room and bring dirty linen down to laundry if needed, on turnover day help clear the decks of dirty linen, dirty dishes, glasses and trash. Duties & Responsibilities * To present a professional appearance at all times: complying with American Steamboat Company and uniform and grooming standards at all times * To comply with all service standards when in passenger areas and at all times when dealing with the passengers directly. * Maintain safe and sanitary conditions at all times. All FDA, Coast Guard and Maritime Security guidelines are to be followed at all times, * To report any maintenance issues found in their areas. This should become routine and awareness second nature when walking through the vessel. * To assist with the bringing on of luggage on the beginning of the cruise and off the vessel at the end of the cruise. This is to be done quickly and accurately. * Public areas and public restrooms are to be kept impeccably clean at all times. This includes cleaning brass, furniture, windows and chandeliers, waxing the show lounge and paddlewheel floors, the light fixtures in the public areas, dusting and vacuuming. * Assist with passengers in wheelchairs if need be. * Keep all the lockers stock with all supplies at all times. * Porters are also part of the trash removal team and are to respond when the request for assistance made. * To stay personally currently on cruise events and programs in order to answer any passenger questions. * Assist in removal of room service equipment (dining room trays, dishes, glasses, etc.) from the passenger areas to the appropriate locations. These items should never be left in the passenger corridors or elevator lobbies. * Assist other crewmembers with their whenever directed or whenever necessary to accomplish overall team goals of providing exemplary service to passengers. * Maintain a level of courtesy and professionalism in conversing with all passengers, co-workers and management at all times. * This position may be required to assist in other areas of the Housekeeping department, such as Housekeeping Attendant and/or Laundry. * Required to attend all meeting scheduled by the Chief Housekeeper or senior management. * Required to read and follow all memo/directives as issued by company management. * Perform duties as instructed by your supervisor or company management. * Ensure behavior and performance supports the company's Mission * Follow company values in responding to others in work situations * Meet "standards for service" behaviors * Use recovery steps to respond to others who are dissatisfied * Make hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties * Be a RESPECT System example for others Minimum Qualifications & Requirements * Education: * HS Diploma or Equivalent Require * Professional Certification(s) or License: * Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) - if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain * Copy of DD214, if Veteran status * Skills & Abilities: * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be fluent in English * Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner * Logically and independently plan, organize and complete work assignments * Must maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance * Experience: * At least 2-4 years of experience in position with similar duties and responsibilities * Cruise industry experience preferred * Other: * Must be at least 21 years of age. * Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing. Working Conditions: The majority of work is performed in a Marine environment in both indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level. The Marine operation is subject to varied wake and motion. Positions both live and work onboard a vessel, on a rotational basis for consecutive port-to-port voyages during the regular season. Physical Requirements: * Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis; ability to work long hours each day * Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently * Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 60 lbs * Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely * Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job * Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel * Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job * Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel's station bill * Crew bed/bunk equipment are rated for 250 lbs maximum weight capacity per bunk We are an equal opportunity employer.
