The Nasher Museum of Art's Visitor Services Representative is a dynamic, customer-service based position that offers the opportunity to work in a contemporary art setting with an international reputation and record of diverse, engaging exhibitions. Visitor Services Representatives work with professional museum staff and expert art educators to deliver a positive and informed visitor experience while furthering their art history knowledge (with emphasis on modern/contemporary art), developing their customer service skills, and participating in the daily operations of a visual arts museum.

The primary responsibility of a Services Representative is to perform excellent customer service and to ensure that student visitor services representative staff or DTS team members are following proper procedures as it relates to interaction with visitors.

Position Description: Part time (24 hours a week) position at the Nasher Museum Information Desk. Ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, weekends, holidays and special/after-hour events as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily opening and/or closing procedures

  • Ensure the galleries and front desk is stocked with supplies and forms.

  • Record daily admissions

  • Provide a welcoming introduction to the museum and offer friendly, informed customer service

  • Take initiative to converse with visitors about the museum, events, and exhibitions

  • Inform visitors of museum policies

  • Offer hands-on assistance to special needs or handicapped visitors

  • Address visitors/staff in a professional, respectful manner

  • Process tours and direct groups when needed

  • Handle phone inquiries and direct to the appropriate staff person, as needed

  • Process memberships and encourage visitor support

  • Follow staff policies and daily operational procedures

  • Check staff calendar updates, tour notes, and event notifications each shift

  • Arrive promptly for all shifts

  • Notify manager as directed for requested time off

  • Participate in educational, exhibition, and staff opportunities

  • Attend staff trainings and new exhibition trainings

  • Research artists, read prepared materials, shadow a group tour etc.

  • Promptly assist senior staff members with tasks, as needed

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications:

  • Organizational and problem-solving skills needed

  • Strong customer service/hospitality experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required with the ability to clearly speak and understand the English language

  • Bi-lingual a plus

  • Ability and eagerness to work with diverse audience/staff

  • Ability to lead by example

  • A background or experience with Art History or Visual Arts preferred.

  • Experience using personal computers with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Windows applications.

  • Basic data entry skills: Verify written information against existing records and make basic arithmetical calculations. Tabulate and post data in record book, copy data and assist in the compilation of records or reports.

  • The scope of this position requires weekday and weekend workdays.

  • Ability to work in late night, weekend, holiday and after-hour events as needed.

Education/Training

  • Work requires communication and comprehension skills normally acquired through a high school education.
