(Job #19-10) Accounting Technician I, Cashier, $2,710-$4,763/month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full-time, 12-month pay plan, exempt, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in Student Financial Services. Under the direct supervision of the Student Financial Services Manager, the Cashier performs accounting and cashiering duties for the University, including analysis and review of student accounts to provide timely and accurate assistance to students and other campus departments; cash handling, receiving and receipting or funds into an automated cashiering system; and interpreting and maintaining strict cash handling procedures. The successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness and flexibility to perform a variety of duties within the department. Job schedule is typically Monday Friday, 8am 5pm, but the incumbent will be required to work some special events outside the normal work schedule, including nights and weekends.
Perform various cashiering and informational duties for students at an open cashiering window
Perform various cashiering and receipting functions for campus departments and auxiliary operations including, but not limited to Housing, Extended Education, Health Services, Athletics, HSU Marine Lab, Natural History Museum, Student Clubs, Associated Student, Sponsored Program Foundation, Parking, and the Library
Perform various reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy of cash handling processes of the university for departments and auxiliaries
Provide cashiering services for special events held on and off campus including, fundraising events, athletic events, orientation programs, Career Center events and student club activities
Perform general office duties
Perform other duties as needed
Equivalent to one year of clerical accounting or financial record-keeping experience OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge of:
Review data for accuracy, completeness, validity and adherence to established standards and best business practices
Compute and record figures rapidly and accurately and identify, trace and correct errors
Use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid
Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
Interpret and apply written rules and regulations
Exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others
Maintain files and records
Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships across a diverse population, and with a range of campus constituents
Work in a high pace office setting
Operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties
Knowledge of PeopleSoft
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Debt recovery or Collection experience
