MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Social Work or aBehavioral Science is required. (Must provide official college/universitytranscript at time of interview)

  • Two (2) years of work experience in hospital finance/revenue Cycleoperations is required.

  • Must be able to travel to work sites throughout the Cook CountyHealth and Hospitals System is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Based on work location, bilingual skills in either English/Spanish, English/Polish and or English/Mandarin may be required or preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHERCHARACTERISTICS

  • Knowledge of the managed care environment, third partyreimbursement, hospital and community services and hospital and health carepolicies.

  • Knowledge of Medicaid eligibility requirements and Cook CountyHealth and Hospitals System and the Department of Human Services policies andprocedures.

  • Ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortmentof records and information in an effective manner and according to CCHHSpolicies and procedures.

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to work with amulti-culturally and economically diverse patient population.

Unit Clerk – Medical ICU (MICU) – 10 E Tower This is a Part Time position 40 hours every two weeks, benefit-eligible Rotating Shift Position Highlights: The Unit Clerk performs clerical duties associated with customer service, the patient care record and electronic health record on the inpatient units. The Unit Clerk is directly responsible for the maintenance of the patient care record and its contents as well as coordinating patient activities, services and supplies from ancillary and support areas that directly relate to patient care. The Unit Clerk is also directly responsible for communication equipment. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Position Responsibilities: Customer Service * Greets customers by establishing eye contact, smiling as appropriate and offering assistance. * Answers incoming telephone calls promptly and courteously, states greeting, name, unit, and offer of assistance. * Answers and screens phone calls to determine appropriate person or response needed. Identifies opportunities to improve customer satisfaction and unit operations, presents implementation suggestions to manager. * Owns complaints received from customers and follows through; if resolution is not obtained promptly, directs complaint to manager. * Anticipates customer needs and assists patients and visitors with direction. * Screens patient call lights and forwards request to appropriate staff member. Patient Flow/Bed Control * Collaborates with Patient Placement, Patient Access, Unit Clerical Manager, and Environmental Services to ensure room readiness for patient admits or transfers. * Schedules diagnostic tests and notifies nursing staff of patient schedules on a per shift basis. * Reconciles census every shift. * Performs walking census reconciliation a half hour before the end of each shift. Patient Medical Records * Assumes accountability for the maintenance of medical records and ensures that current records and records of previous hospitalizations are returned to the Medical Records department as described in policy. * Processes admission, transfer, expiration, and discharge records and completes any other functions associated with patient records in a timely, accurate and legible manner. * Maintains patient care record by insuring all forms are properly labeled with patient I.D. and incorporates them into the patient care record in a timely, organized and accurate manner. * Follows through on all processes using appropriate unit procedures, such as Kardexes, diagnostic test sheet and patient charges. * Initiates and follows all electronic health record downtime procedures in an accurate and timely manner. Unit Operations/Technology * Utilizes complex telecommunication systems. * Utilizes and trouble shoots all unit based communication equipment. * Identifies and trouble shoots technology failures and handles computer down time. * Maintains proper par levels of unit supplies and forms by re-ordering in a timely fashion. * Maintains and utilizes unit pneumatic tube stations for clerical and clinical functions. Teamwork/Professional Work Style * Reports off to oncoming shift, verbally and/or by using unit specific written formats. * Remains on duty until relieved. * Cross-covers multiple units as required. * Independently offers assistance to peers or other staff members when workload allows. * Communicates and negotiates breaks and absences from desk per unit protocol with unit leadership. * Maintains a clean and orderly nursing station and personal work and storage area. * Demonstrates commitment to patient confidentiality and values of Rush. * Accepts assignments, as delegated, by the unit leadership or the charge nurse. * Demonstrates adaptability to change and flexibility in accepting assignments that differ from the established norm. * Actively and enthusiastically participates in the orientation of new personnel including, but not limited to clerical, nursing, and medical personnel. * Adheres to Unit Clerk dress code. Continuous Quality Improvement * Takes responsibility for correcting hazards, or reporting faulty equipment which may endanger self and others and reports status of equipment to unit leadership. * Is aware of and participates in department and Rush quality improvement initiatives. Education & Self-Development * Seeks continual opportunities to learn and assumes accountability for annual mandatory inservice requirements. * Attends staff meetings on scheduled workdays and signs off on minutes of all other meetings. Position Qualifications Include: Knowledge: * High school diploma or equivalent * Working knowledge of basic computer and keyboard functions. Skills: * Strong problem solving and communication skills required. * Able to write legibly and perform basic mathematical calculations * Able to type 25 words/minute or greater. * Able to handle internal and external customer interaction with courtesy, tack, diplomacy and discretion. Abilities: * Work requires the ability to move throughout the Medical Center * Work requires lifting or carrying objects up to 25 lbs. * Shifts include providing 7 days a week, 24 hours/day, coverage as necessary. * Able to respond to and prioritize multiple requests and variable degrees of unpredictability requiring adaptability in work activities. * Work entails coming in contact with patient specimens during processing and transport.
