Case Manager- Care

Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Case Manager for Care. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Care, the Case Manager triages students to the appropriate resources during times of crisis, distress, and of concern.

The Case Manager assists the Assistant Dean to oversee students of concern, and student grievances needs to ensure a sense of urgency in response and serves as a standing member of the LSU Care Team. The Case Manager may supervise and/or provide support for graduate assistants, practicum students, and interns

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

  • Serves as an advocate for students by providing resources and support.

  • Oversees Student Grievances.

  • Works collaboratively with cross-campus teams and community partners to support students, address student issues, and solve problems related to student concerns.

  • Serves on the LSU Care Team.

  • Documenting and pulling analytics in Maxient.

  • Assist with crisis response and education.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP:

Advance the support and provide leadership for student grievances

The Care Case Manager will provide direction and leadership for our student grievance process. There is an opportunity to evaluate current practices to ensure inclusive and prompt services and follow-ups with our students and provide resolution options to address the concern.

Build partnership with university and community stakeholders

The Care Case Manager prioritizes ensuring that Care services are inclusive and accessible to all students. Working in a collaborative environment with university and community stakeholders, the Care Case Manager will strengthen existing partnerships as well as identify and establish new partnerships to best support students.

Increase LSU's ability to respond to and prevent crisis on our campus

The Care Case manager assists in multiple aspects of communication and planning for crisis response throughout campus. In partnership with the Assistant Dean for Care, there is a need to increase on campus education about suicide/crisis prevention and intervention through the LSU Cares program.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Case Management (60%): Triages students to the appropriate resources during times of crisis, distress, and of concern, including initial meetings, campus and community referrals, follow-up, and other efforts to provide thorough and effective education for students in need. Develops, recruits and implements trainings and coordination of the accountability advisors program.

Direct Student Support (20%): Advise and advocate for students directly and in partnership with campus constituents. Acts as a liaison between students and departments. Builds partnerships and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders regarding interdisciplinary intervention efforts, including but not limited to Care team members, student health practitioners, academic counselors, faculty, staff, parents/families, and other support persons to assist students in the highest quality possible.

Administrative Support (10%): Responsible for day-to-day operations and assistance with students of concern cases and management of case load within Maxient. Also responsible for attending and assisting in the coordination of care team communication and follow-up as needed for conflict resolution, outreach for LSU Cares and assessment, and other duties as assigned.

Quality Control (5%): Ensures the highest level of support in every aspect of interventions provided to students. Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to improve the level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in the department for continuous improvement every academic year.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%): Other duties as assigned by Assistant Dean of Care. This includes but is not limited to: efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services, Finals Testing, other special projects etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and at least one year of related professional experience working with Care support or closely related experience.

OR

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education and at least two or more years of experience working with crisis intervention, higher education, or closely related experience.

  • Understanding of mental health treatment plans and terminology (including diagnostic categories) & medical privacy guidelines.

  • Ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information.

  • Experience with Maxient or other case management tracking tools.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:

This position may be asked to work during an official closure, but who is otherwise not required to report to the physical campus during a closure and whose absence does not present a risk to the safety, resources, and well-being of the campus per FASOP HR-01.

As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health-related matter, they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center.

In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students, or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee, outside of those rights contained within FERPA, should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
