Job Summary

The Case Coordinator at Oberlin College is a member of an interdisciplinary team of support with a focus on providing education, access, and referrals for mental health services. The incumbent will provide direct, comprehensive non-clinical case management for students experiencing mental health challenges with difficulty in access, referral, and education. The Case Coordinator will assist the Director and Case Manager for Student Support and Outreach in planning and providing a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow-up services and maintain factual case records.

The Case Coordinator for Student Support and Outreach is a full-time, 12-month, non-continuing, Administrative and Professional Staff reporting to the Director and Case Manager, Student Support and Outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.

  • Works proactively to support prospective, new, and transfer students identified to have prior significant mental health support needs.

  • Collaborate with Counseling and Psychological Services in the triage of students presenting with mental health needs to identify levels of care and make referrals to appropriate support services.

  • Assist with the coordination of the College's process for addressing the needs of students who have concerns with mental health through providing referrals, follow-up services when necessary.

  • Create, maintain, and update mental health referral sources in the area.

  • Collaborates with mental health services providers in planning, and implementation of various mental health prevention programs.

  • Work with students who are struggling with navigating resources and support on campus, to improve the coordination of care and the retention of students.

  • Coordinate follow up with students who have been reported to Student Support and Outreach and referred to campus or community resources; provide appropriate follow-up care/service.

  • Maintain an electronic database of student case management records, providing quarterly reports.

  • Have strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and manage cases accordingly.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Case Manager for Student Support and Outreach.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Human or Social Services or related field.

  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards for quality of work.

  • Able to demonstrate cultural competence, inclusive practice, and diversity management.

  • Ability to effectively interact with colleagues, supervisors, and multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and relational database experience.

  • Commitment to working with diverse groups of individuals, including age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic and educational background, and ability.

  • Must be creative and proactive and self-starter.

  • Must handle difficult situations and confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism.

  • Must be familiar with university students' academic, personal, and mental health/emotional needs.

Desired Qualifications

  • Progressive experience and responsibility in higher education or clinical settings, preferably working in a position with direct student relations or case management experience.

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Human or Social Services or related field.

  • Understanding of best practices of case management and student advocacy

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills are required.

  • Strong project management skills with the demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, implement, and evaluate multiple projects over varied timelines.

  • Must be familiar with Title IX and receive Title IX/Equity training if not already trained.

  • Experience implementing student behavioral interventions.
