This position is located within a National Forest. The position is located at a Forest Service unit with responsibility for providing geospatial data management support for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other cartographic activities supporting land, resources and ecosystem management functions.

Uses GIS equipment and software to compile, capture and update resource base data from various source maps according to the guidelines of specific data sets. Ensures accuracy and appropriateness of data and refers errors or incomplete data to data steward.
Uses basic operations and scripted processes to manipulate and analyze geospatial data to support multi-resource analysis in support of planning, analysis, and monitoring activities; and resource management decision making.
Cartography and Map Design/Production
Creates simple thematic map products and presentation materials using established automated map and chart making processes. Collects and/or receives data for processing and compiling into datasets for producing cartographic models, maps and analysis. Ensures products adhere to map preparation and data quality standards.

GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-04 grade level.
Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in cartography or in a related field such as photogrammetry or geodesy, where the work required similar knowledge and skills. Performed digitizing, scanning, plotting and attributing of resource information for maps that were imported into resident GIS hardware and software. Utilized common computer programs to generate reports, charts, graphs or tabular date for physical scientist or GIS specialist. Revised maps using ArcGIS or other GIS software to show change in boundaries, areas and ownership.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 18 semester hours in courses such as cartography, relevant mathematical and statistical sciences, or related sciences, e.g., physical geography or geodesy. Examples of acceptable courses include cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, remote sensing, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Not more than 9 of the 18 semester hours should have been in mathematics or statistics.-OR
