Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Assist with the renovation of buildings from blueprints with limited supervision, including demolition and restoration. Build new walls from both metal or wood materials as indicated on architectural drawings. This includes, but is not limited to the specific characteristics assigned to the 5 levels of finished grade. Performs all work in accordance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations to include the International Building Code (IBC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. This also includes all National Fire Code requirements related to fire protection in building envelops and all penetrations and specific assemblies of a variety of wall systems and materials.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and 2 years of experience; or accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and no prior work experience.

Driver's License required.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must maintain considerable knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in building maintenance and construction. Must maintain knowledge and skill of the techniques and methods used in the carpentry trade. Must have knowledge for proper use of equipment and tools of the carpentry industry.

Job Duties

Job Duty

  • Performs finished and rough carpentry work to interior and exterior of commercial buildings. This includes but is not limited to metal stud framing, installing and finishing drywall, painting, installing doors and hardware and other finishing items.

  • Ensure that all work being performed follows the departmental and OSHA safety guidelines, policies, and regulations.

  • Assist the installation of new wall systems including but not limited to; providing information on existing carpentry systems that may be affected during a project and advice on requirements for future construction projects;

  • Assist with hanging drywall, framing, ceiling work, floor systems and door systems.

  • Assist with removing items during demolition and assist in ensuring each renovation project is executed safely;

  • Reviewing the project scope and communicating inaccuracies and other project information with supervisory and project management personnel; determining the most time/cost effective solutions; and problem solving assigned construction issues.

  • Performs administrative tasks including assisting with the USC Facilities inventory control by monitoring, ordering, receiving and verifying supplies, materials, and tools from local suppliers and vendors.

  • Protects tools, property and equipment that is assigned to perform tasks.
