This position will report to the Mechanical Supervisor and is based at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren MI. Typical work hours will be Monday thru Friday 7:30 to 4:00. With occasional work on weekends and alternating shifts based on maintenance scheduling needs. The position is also on a paid on-call rotation. This position includes snow removal duties during the winter. What You'll Do as a General Maintenance Worker: Installs, repairs, and/or replaces commercial door framing and doors, door hardware, and auto-closures Installs, repairs, and/or replaces ceiling grid and tiles Installs, repairs, and/or replaces various commercial flooring types, to include carpet squares, VCT, linoleum, ceramic tile, floating floors, and various types of trim Investigates and locates leaks and potential leaks in various types of roofing then determine and potentially perform appropriate repairs Installs, repairs, and/or replaces drywall to include taping, mudding, painting, and caulking Performs minor glass repair to include rubber and wet glazing Fabricates concrete forms to perform minor repairs Removes, replaces, and/or installs cabinetry and counters Supports other crafts / trades as required, and supports planning / estimating of jobs Must adhere to industry and site-specific safety standards / requirements plan, assists in material handling, equipment usage, and operates general construction equipment on site Must be able to climb ladders to gain access to roofs and equipment Ability to erect various types of scaffolding and operate various types of manlifts highly desired Must be able to be on-call for after-hours emergency calls and be able to respond within 2 hours Must be able to manage a project from start to finish to stay within established timeframe Ability to perform metal lath and plaster work is desirable Performs other duties as assigned Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. What You'll Need to Be Successful: High school diploma or equivalent Journeyman license (preferred) Must have at least 10 years of maintenance level experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Able to read and understand / interpret blueprints and drawings to complete a variety of projects instructions using a variety of trade hand tools, portable power tools, standard measuring devices, and standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work and selecting necessary materials for the work Must possess analytical skills, with the ability to read, interpret, and develop statistical reports, drawings, and calculations and be able to interpret policies, procedures, and regulations Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to use hand tools and power tools required for installation, maintenance, and repair. Other Requirements: Successfully pass pre-employment criminal, drug/alcohol, and driving screening. Possess valid driver's license and maintain good driving record. Must have the ability to successfully complete all applicable training modules assigned. Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak the English language. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather as needed and be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors Must be able to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift, move, climb and carry supplies up to 50 lbs.
