Carpenter Lead - Maintenance

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Must have a clear and acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas School Bus Driver's requirements.

• Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry.

• Ability to use hand and power tools.

• Ability to read blueprints and diagrams.

• Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to speak, read, and understand the English language.

• Minimum of five (5) years experience as a skilled carpenter, seven (7) years preferred.

• Ability to show leadership and manage department in the absence of Foreman.

• Ability to work in harmony with others.

• Exhibit and maintain an above average attendance record.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

260 days

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$24.19/HS10

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coordinate the work of a team of carpenters on large projects as assigned.

• Work with building administrators to complete projects.

• Inspect facilities for damages and make recommendations for repair or maintenance.

• Plan, design, and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, and partitions from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.

• Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

• Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, restroom dispensers, etc.

• Construct or assemble various types of furniture.

• Install sheetrock and other types of walls.

• Install ceiling grids, skylights, plexiglass, roof vents and shingles, etc.

• Repair and install hardwood floors.

• Install VCT, ceramic tiles, sports court, and carpet.

• Construct and repair outdoor equipment including fences, benches, gates, bleachers, etc.

• Replace, repair and finish furniture, cabinets, fixtures, woodwork, etc.

• Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.

• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove scraps and lumber as needed.

• Respond to after-hour emergency calls as needed.

• Work overtime and flexible schedules as needed.

• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

• Ensure that vehicle, equipment and tools are in safe operating condition and perform preventative maintenance.

• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

• Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the Foreman or Supervisor.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Supervisor.

Power saw, planer, drill press, sander, band saw, table saw, radial arm saw, nail gun, air compressor and other power equipment; measuring devices; lightweight truck or van; frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting and carrying; working outside or inside in all types of weather; working from ladders, scaffolding and lifts.
