Position Overview: A Soft Craft Technician is responsible for performing various maintenance and repair tasks on non-structural and non-mechanical systems and components within industrial or commercial settings.
This role typically involves working with insulation, painting, coatings, fireproofing, scaffolding, and other non-metallic materials to ensure the safety, efficiency, and aesthetics of the facility. Key Responsibilities: Insulation: Install and maintain thermal insulation on pipes, tanks, and other equipment to control temperature and reduce energy costs.
Select appropriate insulation materials and apply them according to specifications. Painting and Coating: Prepare surfaces for painting or coating by cleaning, sanding, and priming.
Apply paints, varnishes, and coatings to protect surfaces from corrosion and wear. Use a variety of techniques, including spraying, rolling, and brushing. Fireproofing: Apply fireproofing materials to structures and equipment to prevent fire damage and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Inspect and maintain fireproofing to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
Scaffolding: Erect and dismantle scaffolding structures to provide safe access to high or difficult-to-reach areas. Ensure scaffolding is secure and complies with safety standards.
Surface Preparation: Perform surface preparation tasks such as sandblasting, power washing, and scraping to prepare for insulation, painting, or coating. Ensure surfaces are clean and free of contaminants.
Maintenance and Repair: Conduct regular inspections of soft craft applications to identify and address wear and damage. Perform routine maintenance and repairs to ensure longevity and effectiveness.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain detailed records of all work performed, including materials used and safety checks conducted. Collaboration: Work closely with other maintenance staff, engineers, and contractors to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient project completion. Provide technical support and training to apprentices and junior technicians.
