General Summary

Under the direct supervision of the General Trade Supervisor, an associate in this classification performs carpentry work as related to hospital maintenance, construction, and renovation work, painting and other types of trade related functions.

Reports directly to the General Trades Supervisor and in general to the Director of the Department of Facilities Engineering.

Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • High School diploma or General education degree (GED) and/or trade or vocational school graduate with courses in shop math, blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, carpentry and wood working required. (Experience may be substituted for required education to some extent)

  • Requires at least five (5) years in rough and finish carpentry and completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program. Valid Maryland driver's license, which must be maintained.

Working Conditions

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock.

  • The associate occasionally works in high, precarious places, in outside weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and heat, risk of radiation, and vibration.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Potential for regular exposure to communicable disease and hazardous materials requires the observance of standard precautions and safe handling practices.

  • The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear and taste of smell.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
