Specifically, we are looking for experienced and versatile carpenter who is able to follow University design standards, policies, and procedures in a professional manner while ensuring quality workmanship, a clean and safe environment, and positive customer relations. The ideal candidate will possess confidence and enthusiasm for the carpentry trade; and will have a good working knowledge of all aspects of the craft that will enable them to make sound decisions at the job site.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Constructs, repairs, restores and installs structures such as floors, doors, steel stud walls, drywall, windows, stairways, furniture, cabinets, shelves, and roofs.

• Operates and performs preventative maintenance on hand and power saws, planers, lathes, joiners, shapers, drills, sanders and a variety of hand tools.

• Installs locks, knobs, hinges, closures, and other fixtures to structures

• Cleans equipment, shop area, and work site area.

• Maintains and operates state vehicles according to State Motor Vehicle regulations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the commercial carpentry trade.

• Ability to communicate effectively.

• Excellent customer service skills.

Minimum Qualifications

• Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in estimating time and material requirements of work projects assigned.

• Experience in commercial cabinet and casework fabrication and installation.

• Experience with computer data entry and software such as MS Word, Outlook, Excel.

• Experience in hanging drywall, tape and texture.

• Experience in Acoustical ceiling grid installation and ceiling tile.
